Job Description
Unit/Project Description:
The Student Wellness Centre provides a range of services to support student health:
- Counselling – individual counselling, workshops, group psychotherapy
- Medical Care – medical care, mental health care, referrals
- Health Promotion – programs, education, and training
Job Summary:
Under the direction and support of the Manager of Nursing/Education, the Wellness Educator is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of wellness education and promotion programs for McMaster students, and communicating the services of the Student Wellness Centre to the student population. Provides current and reliable wellness information and lifestyle strategies for students and provides outreach to the greater campus community. Assists with the development of a comprehensive student leadership program to aid in the delivery of the wellness programs.
Purpose and Key Functions:
Supervision:
- Ongoing responsibility for supervising 10 or more casual employees.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Health Science, Nursing, or related field.
- Requires 3 years of relevant experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
Assets:
- Good understanding of Student Affairs, and ways to engage students across campus
- Knowledgeable regarding Wellness resources for post-secondary students and resources in the Hamilton Community
- Strong active listening and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional presentation skills for large and small groups
- Knowledge of health promotion practices related to content areas such as sexual health, substance use, food literacy, and in particular, mental health
- Excellent computer skills
Additional Information:
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends especially during peak training and tabling months.
