Role Description

Pheratech is looking for a UI/UX Software Engineering Intern to help design and build a desktop application that interfaces directly with our C++ backend systems. This role sits at the intersection of user experience, front-end implementation, and systems-level engineering.

You will not just design screens but will also implement them, wire them into real C++ logic, and help shape how users interact with complex engineering workflows.

Responsibilities will include:

UI/UX Design & Implementation

• Design clear, efficient user workflows that simplify complex engineering or robotics tasks
• Translate product requirements into wireframes, interaction flows, and high-fidelity UI
• Implement UI components that connect directly to C++ application logic
• Create reusable UI components and maintain consistency across the app

Application Development

• Develop and maintain a desktop application (Qt / QML)
• Integrate UI layers with existing C++ backend systems
• Handle event-driven architecture, state management, and real-time updates
• Optimize performance for responsiveness in technical/engineering environments
• Debug UI-to-C++ integration issues

Collaboration with Engineering

• Work closely with backend C++ engineers to define clean interfaces between UI and core logic
• Participate in architecture discussions around application structure and modularity
• Ensure design intent is preserved through implementation
• Contribute to code reviews and maintain code quality standards
• Document UI architecture, patterns, and interaction behaviors

Product & User Partnership

• Work with product and engineering leads to refine feature scope
• Incorporate user feedback into iterative UI improvements
• Present design and implementation decisions clearly to the team
• Help define how complex system functionality is exposed to users in an intuitive way

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both clean, thoughtful UI and working close to systems-level code.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in C++
• Experience building applications using Qt/QML, WinUI, or WPF
• Familiarity with event-driven programming
• Ability to translate UX concepts into working software
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment

Time Commitment:

• 8-week internship
• ~20–30 hours per week with flexible scheduling

Pay:

$25–$40 per hour (internship role; benefits not included)
