We’re hiring a Comms & Protocols Engineer to architect and deploy advanced communications stacks for distributed counter-UAS systems. Your work will span SDR, mesh networking, NATO-compliant interfaces, and redundant fallback systems - all optimized for real-world tactical performance.
This is a hands-on systems role, blending RF, embedded protocols, and autonomy integration. You’ll enable reliable drone-to-drone, interceptor-to-effector, and ground comms even in degraded, contested RF environments.
Tasks
Develop secure and redundant communications protocols for CUAS and autonomous UAV networks
Program SDRs using GNU Radio, USRP/Ettus platforms, and custom FPGA pipelines
Integrate NATO SAPIENT protocol stacks and other defense-standard interfaces
Build and optimize mesh comms using LoRa, CAN bus, and low-SWaP datalink layers
Design, test, and validate antenna layouts and RF propagation under dynamic flight conditions
Work with autonomy, targeting, and perception teams to ensure reliable low-latency messaging
Validate entire stack in HIL setups and field trials with autonomous air vehicles
Requirements
4–8+ years in embedded comms, SDR, or RF engineering
Experience programming SDR platforms (GNU Radio, USRP, LimeSDR, etc.)
Familiarity with secure mesh networking (LoRa, CAN, custom protocols)
Knowledge of NATO SAPIENT or other military-grade comms protocols
Solid foundation in antenna theory, RF propagation, and EMI-aware design
Proficiency in C/C++ and/or Python for embedded protocol development
Comfortable working across hardware and software boundaries
Bonus Points For:
Experience with fault-tolerant comms or degraded RF environments
Knowledge of custom protocol design or real-time distributed systems
Background in CUAS, drone swarms, or autonomous battlefield networks
Tools: GNURadio Companion, SDRangel, Qucs, MATLAB RF toolbox
Benefits
Be part of a mission to reinvent autonomy for real-world impact
Build secure, resilient comms for next-gen autonomous systems
Work in a custom-built RF & UAV testing lab at Berlin TXL
Competitive salary + meaningful equity
Full-time, on-site role with a focus on rapid iteration and deployment
Who You Are
You’re obsessed with signal integrity, latency, and making sure the system always talks - even when the spectrum is contested and the drone is miles away. You don’t just connect radios — you engineer communication as a battlefield advantage.
