Why SigmaSense?
Sense has invented a fundamentally better way to sense touch. Our patented sigma-delta modulation architecture delivers signal-to-noise ratios that conventional solutions simply cannot match — and the market is taking notice. We have strategic partnerships with industry leaders and a technology platform that is expanding into new application domains from consumer electronics to industrial and automotive systems.
We’re a small team of engineers who move fast, own our work end-to-end, and care deeply about technical excellence. If you want your fingerprints on a platform that is redefining what touch sensing can do, this is the role.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Systems Engineer who can own the full hardware-to-firmware stack for high-performance mixed-signal embedded systems. You will take products from architecture through production — defining requirements, designing PCB circuits, developing embedded firmware, and leading validation. The ideal candidate has deep analog/digital PCB experience, strong embedded firmware skills, and a genuine interest in mixed-signal IC design and digital signal processing.
This role is open at Senior, Staff, or Principal level. Scope, title, and compensation scale with experience and knowledge - we are genuinely interested in the most experience candidates.
What Success Looks Like
- Architect and deliver a production-ready embedded system within schedule.
- Produce clear, testable, and traceable system requirements that the broader team can build against.
- Lead successful hardware bring-up and firmware integration with minimal surprises.
- Resolve complex mixed-signal performance issues efficiently and root-cause them permanently.
- Improve product reliability, performance, and manufacturability across each revision.
Key Responsibilities
System Requirements Development:
- Define system requirements for PCB and mixed-signal IC products; develop and maintain Product Requirements Documents (PRD).
- Lead system-level trade studies covering performance, cost, power, thermal, and EMI/EMC.
- Interface directly with product management and customers to capture and refine technical requirements.
Board-Level Circuit Design:
- Design and develop PCB products incorporating precision analog front-ends, high-speed digital interfaces, power management circuits, ADC/DAC signal chains, and MCU subsystems.
- Perform schematic capture; oversee and review PCB layout.
- Conduct signal integrity, power integrity, and grounding analysis.
- Support prototype bring-up, validation, and debugging; drive design reviews and DFx (DFM, DFT) practices.
Firmware Development:
- Own the embedded firmware effort for microcontrollers and SoCs in PCB product applications.
- Implement and modify firmware in C/C++; integrate communication stacks (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB).
- Implement real-time control algorithms and configure embedded SoC firmware as needed.
Mixed Signal and DSP:
- Analyze and debug mixed-signal circuits at the system level.
- Apply knowledge of digital filtering (FIR/IIR), FFT-based analysis, and spectral processing — directly relevant to our core sigma-delta sensing architecture.
- Model and simulate analog and digital systems using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
Validation and Compliance:
- Develop system validation procedures; perform lab characterization using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
- Support EMC and regulatory compliance testing.
- Root-cause system-level failures and drive corrective actions to closure.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in hardware and/or firmware development.
- Proven experience with mixed-signal PCB development, embedded firmware (C/C++), and structured technical requirements writing.
- Direct customer-facing experience to define application requirements.
- Strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuit design and microcontroller architectures.
- Proficiency with lab debugging tools: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers.
Preferred:
- Experience with digital signal processing (DSP) theory or implementation, ideally with sigma-delta or oversampling architectures.
- MATLAB, Python, or similar for modeling, simulation, or data analysis.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama) and configuration management.
- Knowledge of or experience with production test for PCB or IC products.
What We Are Looking For
- Systems thinker who connects analog hardware, digital firmware, and application requirements into a coherent product.
- Strong communicator across hardware, firmware, and product teams — equally at home at a whiteboard or in a lab.
- Self-directed and ownership-oriented: you drive projects from concept to production without waiting to be managed.
- Excellent troubleshooter who root-causes rather than patches problems.
- Comfortable translating ambiguous customer needs into precise, testable engineering requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer competitive base salary commensurate with experience and level, meaningful equity participation in a company with proven commercial traction, and a comprehensive benefits package. Specific ranges are discussed during the interview process.
