About the Role:
We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to serve as a technical anchor for the systems powering our computer vision analytics platform. This is a
FULL TIME REMOTE
role for candidates located anywhere in the
United States
.
You will act as a technical strategist, moving beyond tactical execution to manage the inherent complexity of a high-scale computer vision platform. You’ll partner with machine learning, infrastructure, and application teams to design the resilient microservices, build data models, and establish integrations necessary to turn raw data into real-time retail insights.
What you'll do here:
- Act as a technical lead by making critical architectural decisions, setting engineering standards, and removing roadblocks to ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions.
- Design and implement the services, jobs, and APIs that support both our internal and external product suites.
- Build and deploy solutions for monitoring, tracing, and debugging services in production to ensure our code remains scalable and reliable.
- Iterate quickly on experimental systems to solve real user problems
- Proactively identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks in our services
- Elevate the entire engineering organization by mentoring junior engineers and establishing best practices for cloud-based microservices.
Who you are:
- You have 8+ years of experience in backend focused engineering roles (or equivalent).
- You have experience in Python (or similar) with extensive experience building services, REST APIs, message queues.
- You have designed schemas using a range of data stores (SQL, BigQuery, in-memory, etc), and can evaluate the tradeoffs between them effectively.
- You have experience with cloud platforms and cloud based services (we use GCP).
- You solve complex problems efficiently - sometimes by writing code, but also by knowing when not to write code.
- You take pride in "elegant" architecture that is as maintainable as it is scalable, and you ensure quality through automated testing and rigorous monitoring.
- You enjoy making others better through thoughtful code reviews and high-level design discussions.
