Job Description Unlock your future with Alcatraz!
Alcatraz is looking for a Solutions Engineer to serve as a technical partner to our Sales, Customer Success, and Operations teams. This role bridges the gap between customer needs and our full-stack hardware and software solutions, helping customers understand how our technology works, how it fits into their environment, and how to deploy it successfully.
The ideal candidate is technically deep, customer-focused, and comfortable operating in pre-sales, onboarding, and pilot/deployment scenarios. You enjoy explaining complex systems clearly, collaborating cross-functionally, and ensuring customer success.
Responsibilities Partner closely with the Sales team to support key accounts with pre-sales activities, including technical discovery, architecture discussions, product demonstrations, and responses to technical questions.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to prospects and customers, helping them understand system capabilities, limitations, integration points, and deployment best practices.
Assist with solution design and implementation planning, including system architecture, network requirements, and integration with third-party systems such as access control, SSO, and video management.
Support pilots and customer onboarding by providing deployment guidance, configuration recommendations, and best-practice training to installers and end users. Sessions may be performed remotely or onsite.
Act as a technical escalation point during onboarding and early deployments, working cross-functionally with Support, Product, and Engineering as needed.
Serve as a technical liaison between Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Support to ensure accurate expectations are set and smoothly handed off post-pilot.
Provide feedback to Product and Engineering teams based on customer interactions to improve product usability, documentation, and deployment workflows.
Contribute to and maintain technical documentation, solution guides, and Knowledge Base content used by Sales, Support, and customers.
Travel to customer sites as required to support pilots, onboarding, training, and critical deployments.
Success in this role is measured by smooth deployments, pilot conversion rates, and reduced post-deployment support tickets.
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a technical field.
Minimum five years of experience in an applications engineering, solutions engineering, or similar customer-facing technical role.
Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven experience supporting pre-sales or onboarding activities, including demos, pilots, or technical evaluations.
Strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise hardware and software systems in customer environments.
Solid understanding of Windows systems, networking fundamentals (switches, routers, TCP/IP), and troubleshooting tools.
Experience working with CRM or sales-support tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar platforms, as well as enterprise tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Experience installing, configuring, or supporting physical access control systems and related security technologies such as video management systems.
Familiarity with enterprise IT concepts such as authentication, certificates, encryption, and secure communications (e.g., 802.1x, PKI, TLS).
