Job Description What's the role Shell is seeking a Soil and Groundwater Engineer/Scientist.
The Shell Soil and Groundwater (SGW) Solutions team is a diverse and inclusive global team of technical professionals, with a delivery model that is benchmarked as industry leading and top quartile across all areas of its activities. Reporting to the Manager of Shell SGW Technical Solutions, this role includes technical assurance on soil and groundwater investigations, risk assessments, and remediation activities conducted by our environmental consultant partnering companies.
This role is virtual and primarily supports sites and portfolios in the USA and Canada.

What We Offer The base salary range for this position is $122,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. Provide deep technical expertise as a SGW Subject Matter Expert, supporting Shell businesses
Deliver deep technical expert support on projects and sites in several of the following key areas:
Hydrogeological modeling
Water resource management / Water availability
Technical Assurance on contaminated land management
Soil and groundwater risk management
Due diligence on land, site, and portfolio acquisitions & divestments
Regulatory negotiations and advocacy
SGW research and development (R&D)
Chemical environmental fate and transport assessment and/or modeling
Waste assessment and sustainable, alternative disposal/reuse technologies
Provide technical assurance (TA) activities, with primary responsibility for assuring third party consultant work across a portfolio of sites with contaminated land, groundwater, and surface water potential risks. The role provides TA support to one or more businesses and ensures high quality delivery of technical project elements by third party consultants
Contribute to or lead research and development initiatives to deliver leading edge technologies and innovative contaminated land management approaches
Participate in regional regulatory advocacy activities and projects designed to maintain Shell's strategic leadership and trusted advisor status in contaminated site risk assessment and management
Collaborate internally and with Shell SGW contracting partners to deliver optimized technical assurance support
Must have legal authorization to work in the US and/or Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor's degree (BSc) in a relevant science or engineering discipline, plus a postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in Hydrogeology, contaminated Land Management, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
At least 5 years of experience working in a contaminated land management role, within industry, environmental consultancy, or a regulatory agency or equivalent
Experience with groundwater sourcing/ disposal/ protection issues related to oil & gas exploration, production activities, and/or water resource forecasting.
Demonstrated expertise in several of the following:
Hydrogeological modelling
Conceptual Site Model development
Tiered environmental risk assessment
Contaminant fate and transport evaluation and/or modelling.
Direct/develop site assessment and groundwater monitoring programs
Remediation strategy development, options analysis, feasibility testing and system performance evaluation and optimization
Hydrogeologic analyses (aquifer testing, stratigraphic interpretation/ correlation
Regulatory negotiations and regulatory expertise
Contaminated land regulatory requirements
Demonstrated ability to interface with internal business customers, external consultants, and regulators
Demonstrated understanding of business value created by environmental risk-assessment and risk/liability management, and ability to quickly seek and understand business objectives when developing technical solutions,
English is the primary language used for this team, however, proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus
In addition to technical excellence, this role requires demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including ability to business partner and coach and develop, deliver change management, and facilitate and intervene. Candidates will be reviewed against these as part of the selection process
Expected travel is approximately 10% and mostly within the region of work
