Role Overview:
As a Software Engineering Manager at heva, you will lead and scale our engineering team in Bengaluru, driving technical excellence while building a world-class engineering culture. You will be responsible for managing and mentoring engineers across the full stack, establishing robust development processes, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable systems that power our AI-driven healthcare platform. This role requires a strong technical foundation, proven leadership experience in high-growth startup environments, and a passion for building teams and processes that enable exceptional engineering outcomes.
Responsibilities:
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of full-stack engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent, building a high-performing team aligned with heva's technical needs and values.
• Establish, document, and implement engineering processes including code review standards, testing frameworks, sprint planning, release management, and incident response protocols.
• Drive engineering excellence through best practices in system design, code quality, performance optimization, security, and observability.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO and product leadership to define technical roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and translate business requirements into engineering deliverables.
• Provide technical guidance on full-stack architecture decisions spanning frontend (React, Next.js), backend (Golang, Node.js, Python), databases (PostgreSQL, Redis), and AI integrations.
• Own the delivery of features and infrastructure improvements, ensuring timely execution while maintaining high quality standards.
• Conduct regular 1-on-1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations to support individual growth and team effectiveness.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration with product, design, AI, and operations teams to ensure seamless product development and deployment.
• Implement and iterate on agile methodologies and development workflows that scale with team growth.
• Champion a culture of documentation, knowledge sharing, and technical mentorship across the engineering organization.
• Monitor and improve engineering metrics including velocity, quality, deployment frequency, and system reliability.
Qualifications:
• 7+ years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack technical expertise spanning frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
• 3+ years of engineering management experience, with a proven track record of building, leading, and scaling engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of modern web technologies including React/Next.js, backend frameworks (Golang, Node.js, or Python), PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Significant experience (3+ years) working at high-growth startups, ideally in the Series A-C stage, with exposure to rapid scaling challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to establish engineering processes from the ground up, including CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, code review practices, and release management.
• Strong technical judgment with experience making architectural decisions, evaluating technology trade-offs, and guiding technical direction.
• Proven track record of successful hiring and talent development, with ability to assess technical skills and cultural fit.
• Experience with agile methodologies, sprint planning, and iterative development processes.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and provide clear, actionable feedback to engineers.
• Passionate about engineering culture, developer experience, and building systems that empower teams to do their best work.
• Experience in healthcare technology, fintech, or highly regulated industries is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI/ML systems, LLM integrations, or conversational AI platforms is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
