About the Position
SK Godelius is seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to join our growing Canadian team based in the Waterloo Region.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and deployment of robotic systems used in mining and industrial environments. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies involving autonomous and teleoperated robotic platforms, AI-powered inspection systems, advanced sensing technologies, and industrial automation solutions.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, and comfortable working across software, hardware, system integration, field testing, and customer-facing activities. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams in Canada and Chile and contribute directly to projects deployed at industrial operations around the world.
This role requires occasional travel to customer sites, testing facilities, conferences, and project locations within Canada and internationally.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop, integrate, and validate robotic and automation systems for industrial applications
• Lead the development and deployment of autonomous and teleoperated robotic solutions
• Develop software applications and control systems using modern robotics frameworks and tools
• Integrate sensors, cameras, analytical instruments, communication systems, and AI technologies into robotic platforms
• Support field deployments, commissioning activities, testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization
• Travel to customer sites and project locations when required to support deployments, testing, training, and technical activities
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across software, electronics, mechanical, automation, and AI disciplines
• Participate in technical architecture decisions and contribute to product development roadmaps
• Prepare technical documentation, test procedures, and project reports
• Work directly with customers, technology partners, and internal stakeholders to understand operational requirements and deliver effective solutions
• Support business development activities through technical presentations, proposal preparation, demonstrations, and customer meetings
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the engineering team
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• 5+ years of experience developing robotics, automation, mechatronics, or industrial systems
• P.Eng designation in Ontario
• Strong programming skills in Python and C++
• Experience with ROS and/or ROS2
• Experience working with Linux-based systems
• Experience integrating sensors, cameras, communication systems, and embedded hardware
• Strong understanding of robotics system architecture, control systems, and software development practices
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Valid driver's license
• Must be available to travel within Canada and internationally when required
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with autonomous mobile robots, quadrupeds, drones, robotic arms, or industrial robotic systems
• Experience in mining, construction, industrial automation, manufacturing, or other heavy industries
• Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, or data analytics
• Experience with cloud platforms, databases, and industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, or Modbus
• Experience with field commissioning and industrial deployments
