Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Process Chemist or Chemical Engineer to bridge the gap between traditional process development and cutting-edge AI technology. This is a computational and strategic role; you will not be required to work in a wet lab or manufacturing plant. Instead, you will leverage your deep experience in process scale-up to design advanced workflows and data strategies. You will work at the intersection of chemistry and technology, collaborating with cross-functional teams to modernize how chemical processes are developed and optimized.
Key Responsibilities:
Digitization of Process Knowledge:
- Leverage extensive industry experience in scale-up (lab to pilot/manufacturing) to establish best practices and decision-making criteria for process development.
- Systematize practical knowledge of unit operations and reaction engineering to support the development of next-generation computational tools.
- Provide expert guidance on route selection, solvent suitability, and safety assessments, ensuring that digital solutions reflect real-world manufacturing constraints.
Simulation & Data Logic Integration:
- Draw upon prior experience with engineering simulation software (e.g., Dynochem, Aspen, Visimix) to advise technical teams on modeling logic and validation strategies.
- Review and analyze existing process data to identify gaps, ensuring the platform is trained on high-quality, relevant datasets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer:
- Serve as the primary source of process chemistry knowledge, guiding the team on identifying high-quality data resources and determining which data parameters are critical for process success.
- Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to integrate advanced informatics into process workflows, identifying areas where technology can resolve traditional bottlenecks.
Data Architecture & Workflow Optimization:
- Apply expertise in Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) usage to help design optimized data structures and documentation standards.
- Define workflows that ensure seamless data capture and integrity, laying the groundwork for advanced analytics and future innovation.
Regulatory & Process Standards:
- Leverage prior experience with CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) to provide context on regulatory requirements, ensuring that development workflows reflect the rigorous standards needed for successful filings.
- Apply a strong understanding of compliance and quality expectations gained from previous projects to guide process decision-making criteria.
Requirements:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
- Strong conceptual understanding of organic reaction mechanisms and engineering principles (mass/heat transfer, mixing).
- 3-5 years of prior industry experience in pharmaceutical or fine chemical process development.
- Deep understanding of the transition from lab scale to manufacturing scale.
- Strong knowledge of operational considerations (reagents, workups, safety) suitable for large-scale production.
- Prior experience using simulation tools (Dynochem, ASPEN, etc.) is required to understand the underlying logic of process modeling.
- ELN Experience: Proven experience using Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) is required, with the ability to conceptualize data organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge or experience in Continuous Manufacturing (Flow Chemistry).
- Experience writing or reviewing CMC documentation.
- A strong interest in AI/LLMs. Basic coding skills (Python) or data science familiarity is a plus.
