Company Description
GULSINE is an AI-driven platform revolutionizing the healthcare industry by enabling precise product lifespan and accelerated aging strategies, leading to faster regulatory approval and safer product releases. Specializing in medical devices, biotech, biopharma, and combination products, GULSINE’s A2P2 platform provides scientifically validated lifetime predictions, reducing approval timelines, extending shelf life, and easing regulatory processes. By focusing on sustainability, the company helps reduce waste, lower carbon footprints, and extend the life of high-value healthcare products. Established in 2023, GULSINE has supported global medical and biopharma innovators with regulator-ready science, stability services, and advanced material solutions for critical health products.
I'm looking for a Senior Materials Engineer to join me at Gulsine Ltd.
The role
Materials Engineer
(Degradation, Ageing & Characterisation, Polymer Recycling & Circular Manufacturing)
Computational modelling experience would be a strong complement but is not essential.
📍 London-based lab, 2 days per week minimum. Hybrid/remote for remaining days.
🗓 Start date: as soon as possible
⏳ Duration: 3 years (Innovate UK–funded collaborative R&D project)
💼 Employment: PAYE
Contract conditions
— Full-time role
— Salary aligned with Innovate UK funding band
— Secure funding for the full project duration
— Role embedded within an international research consortium (UK, Slovenia, Portugal)
— Must be able to work from our London lab at least 2 days per week
Who I'm looking for
Someone with a PhD (or equivalent experience) who is hands-on and genuinely multidisciplinary, comfortable working between lab and desk.
You should be confident with:
→ thermal and mechanical characterisation: DMA, DSC, FTIR etc.
→ materials degradation and ageing mechanisms (polymers, oxidation, hydrolysis, diffusion, stabilisation)
→ sample preparation and test planning
→ data analysis and interpretation: a natural ability to see patterns and question results
→ clear, technically rigorous reporting
Complementary skills that would strengthen your application:
→ physics-based modelling and kinetics
→ scientific machine learning (not black-box AI)
→ computational materials science or scientific computing
You might come from:
→ polymer science or materials engineering
→ membrane, packaging, or composites characterisation
→ battery, semiconductor, or fuel-cell degradation testing
→ reliability engineering or lifetime prediction
→ applied physics or analytical chemistry
You don't need to know everything but you must be comfortable learning across disciplines.
What the role involves day to day
You would work closely with me to:
→ run DMA, DSC, and FTIR characterisation on polymer samples
→ collect, organise, and interpret ageing and degradation data
→ manufacture sample plaques and prepare test specimens
→ coordinate with consortium partners: organising meetings, travelling to partner sites for sample production and testing
→ build and contribute to the A2P2 Intelligence Library: our growing database of validated ageing datasets
→ support the development of A2P2-AI as deployable software
→ contribute to technically rigorous, regulator-ready outputs
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility from day one. You will be working across lab, data, and project coordination -not sitting behind a screen writing reports.
The project tackles one of Europe's toughest circular-economy challenges: recycling cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), a material widely used in energy cables and infrastructure but currently impossible to recycle by conventional methods. Gulsine's role is to bring predictive modelling, lifecycle assessment, and degradation science to this problem ensuring recycled materials meet the performance and durability standards required for real-world deployment.
