We are seeking a senior full stack developer with a passion to build and create innovative, durable, and elegant solutions. You will be involved in the development, management and deployment of our backend cloud infrastructure. Building APIs, dashboards, debugging customer issues, and solving technical and data related problems. You will play a big part in our ongoing success by ensuring our application environments are stable and our application deployments are high quality. 

Your role will have a wide scope, spanning creation, implementation, and improvement of our products across multiple domains; unlike many Big Tech corporate jobs, where you are often restricted to working on a very narrow part of a single project, at Radicle you'll be able to touch many aspects of the product.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of full-stack application features using Next.js

• Partner closely with the CTO to define architectural direction, evaluate tradeoffs, and create scalable, maintainable system designs.

• Provide hands-on technical leadership by reviewing code, mentoring junior engineers, and establishing best practices for code quality, testing, and reliability.

• Drive technical decision-making and participate in planning, scoping, and system design discussions.

• Translate complex requirements into performant, secure, and well-structured solutions.

• Improve backend APIs, data models, and service boundaries to support growth and evolving product needs.

• Build high-quality user experiences using Next.js, optimizing for performance, accessibility, and maintainability.

• Debug and resolve production issues across the stack, working collaboratively across teams.

• Act as an advocate for engineering excellence—maintaining high standards for architecture, documentation, testing, and operational readiness.

• Work closely with our designer and research & operations teams to deliver features that are reliable, intuitive, and aligned with business goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience, ideally in SaaS or similar production environments.

• Strong proficiency in modern frontend development practices like React. Next.js proficiency is a plus.

• Deep experience with at least one backend language (Elixir, Python, Node, etc.), and willingness to work heavily in Elixir and Python

  .

• Solid understanding of relational database design, SQL performance, and working with Postgres

  at scale.

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex systems, APIs, and data flows.

• Strong debugging skills and ability to diagnose issues across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure layers.

• Experience participating in or guiding architecture discussions and technical decision-making.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with Elixir/Phoenix in production environments.
• Experience building observability into systems (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting).
• Familiarity with containerized and orchestrated environments.
• Knowledge of distributed systems patterns and scaling strategies.
• Experience mentoring engineers, leading projects, or influencing cross-team technical direction.
• Familiarity with DevOps tooling and best practices for CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in a startup or similarly fast-paced environment.
• Interest in application security, reliability engineering, and performance optimization.

WORKING STYLE & LOGISTICS

Remote-first team with high ownership and strong collaboration. Some travel (10%) required for key company events. Must manage deadlines and communication across time zones.

Our company is virtual but most employees are based in Southern California.  While preference is given to SoCal residents, remote employees from other US-based geographies will be considered if you can work times that align with team needs and come in person to our twice a year retreats in So Cal. Change is CONSTANT in this work environment, and everyone pitches in to get the work completed.  We work and play hard together virtually, and also in person during our bi-annual in-person retreats. The hours are unconventional and flexible to accommodate collaboration across time zones, so if you are looking for a set schedule of 8 am – 5 pm; Monday through Friday, this is probably NOT a fit for you.  The upside is you’ll get to work with some of the brightest, most creative and passionate people you’ll ever meet.
