About the Role

You'll work on a high-throughput, event-driven platform that processes real-time data from multiple upstream sources. While our core is a robust Java backend, we have an expanding pipeline of frontend work. We need a Fullstack Engineer to build out the sophisticated interfaces and data visualisations that sit on top of the complex logic we've already established. This isn't a "CRUD API and simple form" role. You’ll be managing stream processing and schema evolution on the backend, while ensuring the frontend can elegantly handle and display high-integrity, real-time state. You’ll also be one of the first people using AI-augmented workflows in live engagements, shaping how our proprietary tooling evolves by using it under pressure on real work.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Strong Java Backend Experience: 5+ years building production Java systems (Spring Boot, Microservices).
Modern Frontend Expertise: Proven experience building complex, performant frontends, ideally with React and TypeScript. You understand state management and how to handle asynchronous data flows at scale.
Event-Driven Systems: Hands-on experience with message brokers (Kafka/RabbitMQ) and an understanding of how they integrate with frontend sockets or polling strategies.
Solid SQL Skills: Ability to write queries that are correct and performant at scale.
End-to-End Ownership: You take responsibility for the full stack. You don’t stop at "the API is finished"—you ensure the feature is delivered and functional for the user.
AI Literacy: You’re already using AI in your engineering work and want to be somewhere that’s building AI into its core delivery model.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Next.js, Tailwind CSS, or modern design systems.
Experience with rules engines or declarative business logic.
Experience with change data capture (CDC) or transactional messaging patterns.
Domain experience in logistics, aviation, or operational systems.

Pay range and compensation package

Sydney-based (hybrid) · Contract. Competitive day rate, with opportunity to move to permanent.

Build End-to-End production systems: Design and develop microservices, API layers, event-driven consumers, and data pipelines in client cloud environments (AWS or Azure).

Build End-to-End Features: Design and implement new REST APIs in Java/Spring Boot and build the corresponding React/TypeScript frontend that consumes them.

Java/Spring Boot and build responsive, state-managed frontends in React/TypeScript.

Bridge the Data Gap: Develop the UI components that bring our complex data merge logic and business rules to life for the end user.

Solve Complex Data Problems: Work with systems where multiple sources update the same data and field-level correctness is critical. You'll ensure consistency from the database all the way to the browser.

Write Code that Lasts: Maintain comprehensive test coverage across the entire stack. You build software that the client team can operate and scale after you leave.

Own the Full Delivery Chain: Manage CI/CD pipelines, database migrations, and deployment configurations. You’re comfortable from the commit to the production UI.

AI-Augmented Development: Integrate AI tooling into your daily workflow—from code generation to debugging. Feed that experience back into our AI platform to help shape the future of engineering delivery.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Project Leads, Business Analysts, and UX Designers on a daily basis. Translate BA requirements into technical specifications, participate in design reviews with UX at the component level, and provide clear, proactive progress updates to project leads. You bridge the gap between what's specified and what gets built.
