The Project
Our Clients Data Lab is leading a government-funded AI adoption programme, supporting 30–40 manufacturing SMEs to harness AI for real-world impact.
We’re seeking a Senior Data Scientist Consultant to join the delivery team and help manufacturers adopt and embed AI solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deliver hands-on applied data science support across multiple SMEs as part of a national AI adoption programme.
- Work directly with SMEs to scope, design, and deliver practical data and AI solutions in short, focused engagements (typically 2–5 days).
- Support sensor-enabled use cases, including ingestion of data from IoT devices (e.g. machines, environmental sensors) into cloud platforms.
- Build and maintain cloud-based data pipelines, covering batch and streaming workflows (e.g. MQTT, APIs), data cleaning, and transformation.
- Work with cloud data platforms (including Snowflake) to store, transform, and analyse SME data in support of analytics and AI use cases.
- Develop clear, lightweight analytics and dashboards (e.g. Power BI, QuickSight, Grafana, or similar) to enable operational and business decision-making.
- Apply data science and analytics techniques to real-world problems such as monitoring, optimisation, forecasting, and anomaly detection.
- Translate technical outputs into clear, actionable business insights for non-technical stakeholders.
- Document technical work clearly to support knowledge transfer, reporting, and programme evaluation.
Who We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Senior Data Scientist or Applied Data Consultant.
- Strong background in applied data science and data engineering, rather than purely research-focused roles.
- Experience with modern cloud platforms.
- Snowflake experience strongly preferred, particularly for analytics, data modelling, and transformation workflows.
- Experience working with streaming or near–real-time data (e.g. MQTT, event-driven ingestion) is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in data wrangling, analytics, and visualisation (e.g. Power BI, QuickSight, Grafana).
- Excellent customer-facing and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Comfortable working independently, managing time effectively, and delivering value quickly.
- Experience working within public-sector or university delivery contexts is a plus.
