This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading health data engineering team. The role is based at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, but will operate across the wider region as part of the AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare. Our consortium spans 10 hospitals across the country, universities, and strategic commercial partnerships, aiming to deploy technology to accelerate research, the development of new therapeutics, and to achieve direct patient benefit.
We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent data engineering skills, with enthusiasm and passion to learn. You will have the opportunity to deploy Large Language Model and NLP tooling orchestration frameworks as part of standard data transformation pipelines.
The successful applicant will use a professional tool stack (including Snowflake, SQL, dbt, Python, and NLP/LLM orchestration) for building data pipelines, from source systems to analyst ready marts, which will be used in clinical analytics, research, population health, and to support Real-World Data functions.
You will have access to the deepest health data lake in the UK - and one of the deepest in the world - that includes billions of highly granular events across linked primary care and secondary care data, information extracted from >500 million clinical documents, all linked to imaging data and reports. Our strategy over the next two years is to continually improve this infrastructure, and extend it across other sites in the region.
You will be supported in continuing your personal development within a highly expert (and super friendly) team, with opportunities to build skills in in areas such as orchestration, cloud infrastructure/devops, applied use of LLMs, and continuous integration/deployment.
Our team is based in Waterloo, at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (100 Lambeth Palace Road).
Essential Criteria
Proficient in SQL for data engineering and analytics
Experience of using dbt
Experience of EHR data and its meaning in clinical contexts
- Experience with best development practices, CI, and tools such as git
Desirable Criteria
Experience in Snowflake or other cloud platforms
Proficiency in Python
Experience of NLP / LLM usage in production settings
Experience in data pipeline orchestration
Background in clinical practice (e.g. as a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist)
