Overview
Aleph Alpha Research is expanding its team in Heidelberg, Germany, and is seeking experienced Senior AI Software Engineers with expertise in DevOps/MLOps. The role involves enhancing model and algorithm development, managing research infrastructure, and contributing to significant research projects.
Responsibilities
Depending on your profile, you will contribute to one or more of the following areas:
- Design and continuous development of research infrastructure, improving code quality, testing, and feature delivery.
- Support the development, training, and maintenance of deep learning models in collaboration with researchers and SW/HW engineers.
- Develop and optimize lower-level code for data processing, tokenization, or research projects.
- Contribute software-engineering expertise to research projects, such as agent interfaces or data generation.
- Help transition AI research innovations into real-world applications.
- Engage in the hiring process and mentor engineers and researchers on software development best practices.
Technical Environment
- Most training code is written in Python, with PyTorch as the main deep learning framework.
- Some lower-level code is written in Rust.
Profile
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of non-internship professional experience across the full software development lifecycle.
- Ability to solve complex and novel problems independently using state-of-the-art scientific approaches.
- Proven track record in design and architecture of large-scale systems.
- Deep expertise in at least one major programming language (ideally Python).
- Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field.
- Willingness to relocate to Heidelberg, Germany, or visit the office regularly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Skills in integrating complex systems with cross-team collaboration.
- Experience designing and delivering high-performance, scalable systems into production environments.
- Contributions to research outputs or top-tier publications.
- Experience with systems programming and low-level languages like Rust.
- Master’s degree in computer science or related fields.
- Eagerness to learn about machine learning, with a preference for candidates with prior ML experience.
