RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead from the bench in the design, development, validation, and implementation of novel biochemical assays targeting allosteric sites for small molecule screens, hits validation, and mechanism of action studies.
Provide expert knowledge of biochemical mechanisms for small molecule interactions with target proteins and serve on cross-functional project teams as the biochemistry expert.
Help manage external CROs in assay development, transfer, and validation, to support library screens, hit validation, hit to lead, and lead optimization. Ensure quality control of data entering the corporate database.
Effectively interact with colleagues in biophysics, structural biology, cell and chemical biology, computational and medicinal chemistry, plus other functional groups such as Immunology and Oncology, to apply biochemical tools to solve project specific problems driving project progression.
Proficiently use a wide range of biochemical assay methods such as TR-FRET, AlphaLISA, FP, TRIC/Spectral shift, MSD, TSA/Nano-DSF, DLS, etc., to characterize target proteins and interactomes; willingness to develop cell-based target engagement assays is a plus.
Contribute to the design, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins for biochemical and biophysical assay development and validation.
Present complex experimental data and insights to cross-functional teams, clearly articulating findings, recommendations, and project impact to support decision-making
Stay scientifically current with willingness to implement new technologies to the biochemical assays focusing on allosteric binding sites
Make intellectual contributions to all stages of drug discovery process and project deliverables. Clearly articulate goals, progress, and issues to drug discovery teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or a related discipline with demonstrated level of expertise and a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in small-molecule drug discovery, including industry or a combination of post-doctoral and industry experience; BS/MS degree in biochemistry or a related discipline with 4-8 years of relevant industry experience may be considered. Extensive experience in biochemical assay development for protein interactions, including methods such as TR-FRET, AlphaLISA, FP, MST, MSD, TSA/Nano-DSF, etc.; experience and knowledge of cell-based target engagement methods is a plus. Some experience developing and implementing biochemical assays to support small-molecule drug discovery and/or MOA elucidation using a variety of detection formats. Experience with allosteric binding sites on proteins is a plus. Willing to work with CROs to solve problems and drive progress Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work seamlessly with multiple drug discovery teams to provide biochemistry support at all stages Excellent organization and management skills, including the ability to set high but reachable goals, ability to manage multiple projects and capability to prioritize Strong interpersonal, influencing and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, matrix environment, and the ability to work independently and effectively within tight timelines Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities with a strong publication record Ability and willingness to learn and adopt emerging technologies to drug discovery process Ability to adapt to and effectively manage changes in a fast paced, dynamic environment A passion for drug discovery and sense of urgency to find new medicines for patients
