About the Role
Alert Venture Foundry (AVF) is a robotics-focused startup studio inventing and launching real-world robotic systems. Our teams work across hardware, embedded software, autonomy, and simulation to build systems that operate reliably outside the lab.
We’re looking for a Robotics Simulation Software Engineer to help us use virtual simulation as a practical engineering tool for an application specific robot platform. In this role, you will build and extend simulation environments that support development, testing, and iteration of robotic systems, working closely with controls, autonomy, and systems engineers.
This role is well suited for an early- to mid-career engineer who enjoys working across software and robotics, is comfortable writing code in both Python and C++, and is excited to learn how simulation connects to real hardware behavior. You will not be expected to be a simulation expert on day one, but you should be curious, systems-minded, and eager to grow.
What You’ll Do:
- Work with physics-based simulation environments to model robotic systems, sensors, and environments in a production environment.
- Configure and maintain simulation scenes, assets, and robot models to support development and testing workflows.
- Extend existing simulation tools with custom components, plugins, or behaviors using C++ and Python.
- Support simulation-based testing and validation workflows, including software-in-the-loop and early hardware-in-the-loop efforts.
- Collaborate with controls, autonomy, embedded, and systems engineers to ensure simulation supports real-world engineering needs.
What We’re Looking For:
- 2–5 years of experience developing software for robotics, simulation, or complex systems, or equivalent academic and project experience
- Comfort writing and reading C++ code, particularly for extending or customizing existing software frameworks
- Strong working knowledge of Python for scripting, tooling, and integration tasks
- Experience with simulation environments such as robotics simulators, game engines, or custom physics-based tools
- Familiarity with core robotics concepts such as kinematics, sensors, control loops, or system dynamics
- Comfortable working in Linux-based development environments
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with robotics simulation tools such as Isaac Sim, Gazebo, Unity, Unreal, or similar platforms
- Exposure to ROS2-based simulation or robotics workflows
- Experience writing custom simulation plugins, components, or sensor models
- Familiarity with testing or validation workflows for robotics software
- Interest in connecting simulation results to real hardware testing and deployment
