The Role
As a Mass Spectrometry Specialist / Research Associate you will run and maintain high-throughput mass spectrometry workflows and ensure stable, continuous data generation. You will work with precious human biobank tissue samples, including laser microdissected formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) material containing limited cell numbers.
The position is hands-on, instrument-focused, and operates under established SOPs to support operations and R&D.
You will work daily with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers, nanoLC systems, and automated sample preparation.
You Will:
Perform nLC-MS/MS operations
- Prepare samples for deep visual and spatial proteomics using established SOPs, including processing of human clinical tissue specimens and laser microdissected samples with low cell numbers
- Run high-throughput mass spectrometry experiments in a production-like environment
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot state-of-art mass spectrometers (Orbitrap Astral Zoom) and nano-LC systems (EvoSep Eno)
- Keep MS systems running with minimal downtime through routine maintenance and troubleshooting
Support automation and high throughput
- Use and maintain automated liquid handling platforms (e.g. Agilent Bravo, Opentrons, or similar)
- Support and improve automated and semi-automated proteomics bottom-up workflows
- Contribute to increasing robustness, throughput, and reproducibility of the platform
Ensure quality and collaboration
- Follow GLP workflows, reporting and documentation
- Perform routine QC checks and instrument performance monitoring
- Work closely with scientists, engineers, and operations to align daily lab work with project needs
- Work collaboratively with Operations team across lab and computational functions and support R&D activities as necessary
You are:
Nice to have
- Experience with liquid handling robots (e.g., Agilent Bravo, Opentrons, or similar)
- Experience in high-throughput lab environments
- Experienced in working with human clinical samples (FFPE tissue, fresh frozen tissue, or similar biological specimens)
- Experience with independent data analysis, interpretation, and internal presentation of proteomics results, including the ability to critically assess data quality and draw meaningful conclusions
- Experience in spatial proteomics or targeted proteomics
- Familiarity with GLP or regulated laboratory environments
