What You’ll Do

You’ll be the primary owner of backend engineering for Minerva, responsible for:

Security & Permissions (ABAC): Design and implement attribute-based access control, authentication/authorization patterns, audit logs, account lifecycle management, and least-privilege defaults.
Data Model & Integrity: Own schemas, migrations, validation, idempotent writes, and background jobs to ensure clean, reliable data capture.
Core APIs: Build stable, versioned APIs for experiments, samples, and runs. Support integrations with ML tools and downstream dashboards.
DevOps & Reliability: Establish CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, staging environments, seeded test data, and error tracking/observability.
Performance: Optimize queries and workflows to reduce scientists' time-to-record and improve perceived product value.
ML Integration Surface: Create APIs for ML pipelines.

What We’re Looking For

Experience: 4+ years of backend engineering experience (or equivalent impact).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Flask (or similar Python frameworks).
Strong PostgreSQL performance tuning and schema design skills.
Experience with AWS fundamentals (IAM, RDS, ECS/Beanstalk, containerization).
Authentication & authorization patterns (JWT, session management).
Strong testing discipline (unit, integration, regression).
Mindset:
Bias for ownership and delivery.
Comfortable working in minimal-process, startup environments.
Strong judgment in data modeling and trade-offs.

Build software that directly supports cutting-edge scientific research and AI/ML.
Own a critical part of the platform from the ground up.
Work in a small, focused team where your impact is highly visible.
