Project Quality Manager
to lead and oversee all quality management activities for utility-scale renewable energy projects across
South Africa.
The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and managing project quality systems, ensuring EPC contractor compliance, driving defect prevention, and delivering handover-ready assets across PV, Wind, and BESS projects.
This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced EPC construction environments.

About the Company
The client is a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) focused on the development, construction, and operation of utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout South Africa. The organisation is currently delivering multiple EPC projects across Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Project Quality Management
- Establish, implement, and manage the Project Quality Management System (PQMS) in alignment with Employer requirements
- Review and approve Contractor Project Quality Plans (PQP)
- Review and approve Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Method Statements
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Enforce quality control processes across Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical disciplines
Quality Assurance & Quality Control Oversight
- Monitor and oversee EPC contractor QA/QC implementation on site
- Ensure proper application of hold points and witness points
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and surveillance activities
- Verify workmanship quality, installation compliance, and material conformity
- Ensure full traceability of materials, components, and installations
Non-Conformance Management
- Establish and manage the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process
- Ensure all NCRs are properly identified, documented, categorised, and closed out
- Drive effective root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions
- Escalate critical quality risks and issues to Employer management
Procurement & Material Quality Control
- Oversee quality requirements relating to procurement and supplier deliverables
- Ensure Free Issue Materials (FIM) are inspected, verified, and appropriately stored
- Verify material compliance documentation including certificates, test reports, and traceability records
Quality Expediting
- Monitor quality readiness of equipment and materials prior to delivery
- Ensure Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), inspection reports, and certification documentation are completed
- Prevent non-compliant materials from arriving on site
Documentation & Handover Management
- Ensure all quality documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted in accordance with project requirements
- Monitor development of handover dossiers and data books
- Coordinate with Document Control to ensure version control, traceability, and timely submissions
- Ensure projects achieve commissioning and handover readiness
Stakeholder Management
- Interface with EPC Contractors, Owner’s Engineers, consultants, and internal project teams
- Facilitate quality meetings, audits, inspections, and technical reviews
- Align stakeholders on quality expectations and compliance requirements
Reporting & Risk Management
- Prepare weekly and monthly quality reports
- Maintain NCR registers, audit records, quality dashboards, and risk logs
- Identify and proactively mitigate quality risks impacting project delivery
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality Management, or related discipline
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in EPC project quality management
- Proven experience within renewable energy projects, including Solar PV, Wind, and/or BESS
- Strong understanding of:
- ISO 9001
- Quality Management Systems
- Construction quality processes
- EPC project environments
- FIDIC contractual frameworks

- Weekly and monthly quality reports
- Updated NCR registers
- Inspection and audit reports

- Data pack and handover documentation status reports

- The role is site-based during the construction phase.
