Job description
Can you ensure our breakthrough metrology systems meet the highest levels of safety and compliance globally?
Nearfield Instruments brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to build a revolutionary high-throughput atomic force microscopy (AFM) system, enabling atom-scale 3D metrology at industrial throughput. We design, develop, integrate, market, and service these advanced metrology machines—and we rely on robust compliance to make them safe, reliable, and ready for global deployment.
What will you be doing?
As a seasoned Electrical Compliance Engineer at NFI, you will be responsible for driving our platform designs to simplify compliance throughout its lifecycle and installs globally. You’ve seen it all before and know what’s the trick in both the architecture and design choices. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, software/firmware, and project management, you will help translate design concepts into fully compliant systems that meet international standards.
You will be involved throughout the full product development: from early concept to product upgrades in the field and everything in between. To make things more fun: We collaborate with design and production houses, for which we need proper agreements and deliverable alignment. Your expertise will help strengthen NFI’s compliance strategy and ensure that all platforms meet mandatory safety and EMC requirements.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assure our design and architecture simplifies compliance throughout the platform lifecycle in collaboration with our engineering teams.
Ensure electrical designs, subsystems, and components align with applicable safety, EMC, and documentation requirements.
We ship our products globally, relevant standards include EN-IEC 60204-33, EN-IEC 61000-6-2, EN-IEC 61000-6-4, IEC 61010, NFPA 79, and UL 61010.
Collaborate with our QHSE department and make plans how we can best test/validate in the future.
Be able function as one of the electrical engineers in the team, e.g. to review, to participate in useful discussions and do design work where needed.
Job requirements
What do we require from you?
At least a BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in electrical compliance, certification, or safety engineering within a high-tech systems environment, preferably semicon or related.
Demonstrated knowledge of EN-IEC 60204-33, EN-IEC 61000-6-2, EN-IEC 61000-6-4, IEC 61010, NFPA 79, and UL 61010.
Strong understanding of electrical and electronics principles, and familiarity with mechanics and software.
Pro-active, analytical, and hands-on mindset.
Well-organized and capable of working independently in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
Comfortable navigating uncertainty and experimental engineering challenges.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills in English.
