About the Role

You define and deliver technology architectures for complex enterprise systems. Distributed platforms, event-driven streaming, cloud-native infrastructure, multi-site deployments. You don't hand over a design document and move on. You stay through delivery and own the outcome in production.

But architecture itself is shifting. We're building an AI platform that augments how our teams deliver. For a solution architect, that raises questions that matter: when AI can generate a first-pass architecture in minutes, what does the architect actually spend their time on? The answer is the hard stuff. Integration trade-offs that depend on organisational context. Non-functional requirements that only surface when you understand the client's operations. Migration sequencing that accounts for reality, not just technical dependency. The role gets more valuable, not less, but the shape of the work changes.

You'll work at enterprise clients across industries with a focus on operational excellence, enterprise technology and scaled intelligence.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Architecture depth. 10+ years in solution architecture with deep experience across distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and enterprise integration patterns. Strong across hyperscalers: kubernetes offerings, realtime data architectures, operational excellence through observability, ITIL practices, cybersecurity and resilience standards.

Production rigour. Experience designing systems with formal non-functional requirements: disaster recovery, high availability, zero-downtime migration. Understanding of data architecture patterns: streaming, batch, lakehouse, real-time analytics. You design for how systems fail, not just how they run.

Communication range. You can present a distributed architecture to a board and a build team in the same week, adjusting depth without losing accuracy. You write documentation that's specific, defensible, and useful to someone who wasn't in the room.

Judgement about AI. You understand how AI is reshaping enterprise architecture and you can help clients make real decisions about it. You're already using AI to accelerate your own work and you're forming opinions about where it changes the practice of architecture and where it just generates plausible diagrams.

Pay range and compensation package

Sydney-based (hybrid) · $220k–$250k base + STI + ESOP or Contract day rate equivalent

AI-augmented architecture. Use AI to accelerate the repeatable parts of architecture work: reference patterns, documentation drafts, options analysis, compliance mapping. Focus your time on the judgement-intensive work that AI can't do well. Help us build that distinction into our platform so the whole team benefits.

Help clients navigate AI decisions. Design systems that integrate AI components and help clients figure out what belongs in production and what doesn't. The ability to tell a CDIO "this isn't ready" is as valuable as designing the system that is.

Evolve how architecture engagements work. Help us answer questions we're working through. What does a fixed-scope architecture engagement look like when AI compresses the discovery and options phase? How do you define deliverables when the tooling can produce a solution-on-a-page in an hour but the real value is in the constraints you chose and the ones you rejected? What changes about handover documentation when AI can generate it from the codebase?

Produce documentation that survives. Solution-on-a-page summaries, API specifications, operational runbooks. Architecture documentation that helps the team operate the platform with excellence.
