About the Role

You lead technical delivery for complex software and mission critical enterprise systems. Event-driven platforms, streaming architectures, real-time data pipelines, cloud-native systems. The kind of work where uptime and data integrity actually matter.

But the delivery model underneath you is changing. We're building an AI platform that augments how our engineers work. That means the Principal Engineer isn't just the technical authority on client engagements. You're also figuring out what software delivery looks like when AI is generating first drafts of code, tests, runbooks, and architecture options faster than a team of four could produce them manually.

You'll work at enterprise clients across industries with a focus on operational excellence, enterprise technology and scaled intelligence.

Responsibilities

What you bring

Engineering depth. 10+ years building production software, with experience leading engineering teams on enterprise delivery. Strong in more than one language and where to use one over the other. Deep experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure), Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform.
Systems thinking. Event-driven architecture, streaming platforms, real-time data processing. You've built systems where failure has consequences. You understand the difference between a demo and a production system, and you build for the second one.

Sydney-based (hybrid) · $220 to $250k base + ESOP or Contract day rate equivalent

Lead technical delivery. Set architecture direction, make the hard design calls, and write code alongside the team. Microservices on EKS/AKS, event-driven streaming with Kafka/Confluent, serverless pipelines, API layers. You own the technical outcome from sprint one through production.

Build production systems that stay up. Observability, disaster recovery, operational runbooks. You own production outcomes, not just repositories. Design data ingestion and processing pipelines: real-time telemetry, multi-format message distribution, ETL at scale.

Set engineering standards. CI/CD pipelines, risk-based testing with real coverage targets on critical paths, production readiness criteria. The kind of standards that survive after you leave a client engagement.

AI-augmented engineering. Use AI tooling in live delivery: code generation, test scaffolding, architecture review, documentation. Figure out where it compresses timelines, where it changes team shape, and where it produces confident garbage that a senior engineer needs to catch. Feed that back into our platform and into how we scope engineering work.

Evolve how engineering engagements work. Help us answer the questions we're working through. What does a fixed-price build look like when AI accelerates the first 60% but the last 40% is the same complexity it always was? How do you estimate effort when your toolchain is getting materially better every quarter? What's the right ratio of senior to mid-level engineers when AI is closing the gap on routine implementation? How do we ensure mission critical quality objectives are met while improving velocity using AI?

Build capability. Knowledge transfer, developer tutorials, accreditation programs for client engineering teams. You leave teams stronger than you found them.

Technical authority without hierarchy. You lead through code and decisions, not org chart position. You communicate trade-offs clearly to architects, clients, and junior engineers. When something breaks at 2am, you're the person who knows where to look.

Already building with AI. You're not waiting to be told to use AI in your workflow. You're already doing it and have opinions about where it helps and where it doesn't. You want to be inside a firm that's building AI into its delivery model, not bolting it on as an afterthought.
