Lead the design, analysis, and integration of precision opto-mechanical assemblies for optical systems.
Provide consistent, proactive guidance on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Assembly (DFA) and Test (DFT) to support product development efforts.
Develop innovative mechanical solutions that align with optical, thermal, and structural requirements.
Collaborate with optical designers, optomechanical designers, manufacturing engineers, and test engineers to define interface requirements and ensure cohesive product development.
Guide prototype builds and support optical and environmental performance testing to iterate and refine designs.
Lead design reviews, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and contribute to best practices in opto-mechanical engineering.
Document all aspects of design, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications, for manufacturing and quality assurance.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design and development.
Demonstrated experience with technical delivery of opto-mechanical products from ideation to launch.
Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX), optical tolerancing and design for manufacturability (DFM).
Experience with environmental exposure tests and optical performance validation including shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, chemical and UV exposure.
US Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device industries.
Familiarity with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V) and systems integration.
Strong background in structural and thermal analysis techniques, including FEA.
Knowledge of materials science, adhesives, coatings, and environmental sealing for optics.
Strong project management skills and experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.
