About the Role
At Galatek Singapore, we're building the next generation of advanced semiconductor equipment - and we’re looking for a talented Principal Firmware Engineer to join our team. If you have experience designing motion and logic controller for industrial application especially in precision automation industry, and are eager to contribute to cutting-edge technology, we want to hear from you!
As a Principal Firmware Engineer, you will play a vital role in developing and refining the electronic control system from scratch that power our advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment:
What You Bring
Define whole electronics system concept in terms of FW/Embedded SW
Define technical direction, select toolchains, IP, RTOS, and libraries; comparison of different options
Modular system FW architecture plan and design
Core processor (FPGA, MCU/SOC/DSP) selection together with HW
Lead RTL (Verilog/VHDL) and C/C++ design and verification for real‑time motion pipelines, encoder interfaces, PWM/commutation, high‑speed counters, and deterministic control loops; ensure seamless data exchange between firmware, motion‑control algorithms, and application software
Own system integration at the electronics FW boundary: clocking, resets, timing budgets, power modes, bootloaders, and memory maps
Integrate industrial communication stacks (EtherCat, CANopen…) and high speed links (SPI/QSPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, USB…)
Establish and enforce coding standards, design reviews, and DFx (DFT/DFM/DFR) practices for FW team
Contribute to DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) processes to identify risks and mitigate electronic control system failure points
Lead the transition from design to production, supporting prototype testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing scale-up
Assist in design documentation, ensuring the correct verification and validation processes are followed
Full responsible for FW team and guide FW engineers on development including detail coding
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field
At least 10 years of firmware/embedded software experiences, including both FPGA and MCU/SOC/DSP design, preferably within the semiconductor, precision instruments, or complex control systems industries
Professional level of coding skills: C&C++; Verilog or VHDL; python and other scripting language
Good understanding and practical experience on RTOSsuch as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar
Good understanding and practical experience on industrial fieldbus; EtherCat and CANopen are must
Master level on FW architecture design
Familiarity with diagnostic and analytical tools such as oscilloscope, logic analyser, etc for design debugging and troubleshooting
Both hands-on as well as technical leadership in FW domain
Strong problem-solving skills and analytical approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams, and document complex technical information clearly
Willing to travel 25% time during new product transition and supplier engagement periods
Fluent in both English and Chinese (for working with clients and vendors in the region).
