Background
Founded in 2012, the Sherman Centre provides consulting, instruction, and technical support to faculty, staff, students, and community members for all aspects of digital scholarship (DS)—from teaching and training to research, dissemination, and beyond. We offer digital scholarship programming that supports learners at all levels and across disciplines. This includes hands-on workshops, online learning modules, academic courses, and a certificate of attendance program that complements our workshop series. The Sherman Centre also engages in a wide range of activities that support and build digital scholarship communities within and beyond McMaster. The Centre is a joint initiative of the McMaster University Libraries and McMaster University’s Faculty of Humanities and is made possible by a generous gift from the Lewis & Ruth Sherman Foundation. Job Description
Working under the supervision of the Sherman Centre’s Academic Director and in close collaboration with its Administrative Director and staff members, the postdoctoral fellow will support the general outreach and curricular activities of the Sherman Centre, with a specific focus on community-focused knowledge mobilization: e.g., podcasting, digital storytelling, digital mapping, visualization, sonification, and/or social media analysis.
In alignment with their own DS research agenda, the fellow will, in close collaboration with other Sherman Centre staff:
Beyond these responsibilities, the fellow will participate actively in the life and activities of the Sherman Centre and represent it at key DS events such as the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) and the annual Digital Humanities conference at the institution’s expense.
Eligibility
The Postdoctoral Fellowship is open to scholars who have completed their doctoral degree no earlier than June 1, 2022. Candidates must have defended their dissertation and received their Ph.D. by July 1, 2026. The optimal candidate will have a Ph.D. in a Humanities or Social Science discipline and a digital scholarship research agenda with expertise in approaches to community engagement and knowledge mobilization. International scholars are invited to apply; however, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
