ABOUT AXILES BIONICS
Axiles Bionics is a Brussels-based spin-off from Brubotics (VUB), specializing in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Biomechanics, striving to improve the quality of life with new bionic technologies. Our mission is to bring peace of mind and body to amputees with innovative bionic solutions and outstanding services.
We are looking for a Bionics Mechanical Engineer who will play a crucial role in developing, optimising, testing, and maintaining the next generation of bionic devices, significantly improving the quality of life for those who need it most. Your mission is to ensure thorough and efficient verification of all devices developed at Axiles Bionics, across every design phase and stage of product development. You will also be critical in designing and preparing the necessary tools and setups for comprehensive product testing. You will be part of the Research & Development team, within the Mechanical sub-division and report to the CTO. You will collaborate closely with engineers from electronics, software, and quality assurance to design, develop, and test next-generation bionic devices.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Bionics Mechanical Engineer , you will be at the heart of our product development process, from concept to verification and validation. You will design and optimize mechanical components, develop test setups, and ensure our bionic devices meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety. This is an opportunity for an engineer who loves solving complex mechanical challenges, enjoys hands-on work, and thrives in a multidisciplinary environment that bridges robotics, biomechanics, and medical device innovation.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Mechanical Design & Development (40%)
Design and maintain mechanical components, prototypes, tooling, and test equipment for current and future products.
Assemble product configurations for testing and support the development of other company products.
Collaborate closely with electronics, software, and quality teams to ensure integrated product development.
Share knowledge with team members to align on project requirements and development goals.
Testing & Verification (40%)
Prepare products for testing, including bench setups and user trials.
Execute tests, collect data, and support data analysis for system and subsystem validation.
Provide technical support for incoming goods inspections and failure analysis.
Ensure test methodologies cover all design requirements and inputs.
Quality, Documentation & Compliance (20%)
Write system and subsystem requirements, test cases, and documentation aligned with ISO13485 Medical Device regulations.
Prepare technical files, cost estimates, test protocols, and other documents required for product transfer and compliance.
Contribute to IP activities, including patentability analysis and freedom-to-operate assessments.
WHAT YOU BRING
