1. Mechanical Design Ownership
- Own end-to-end mechanical design for major modules or full equipment platforms.
- Lead concept development, detailed design, tolerance strategy, and release to production.
- Perform and review engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and risk assessments.
2. System Architecture & Integration
- Drive system-level mechanical architecture, ensuring alignment with motion, electrical, software, and process requirements.
- Define mechanical interfaces, datum structures, and modular design strategies.
- Identify and mitigate mechanical design risks early in the project lifecycle.
3. DFM / DFA & Manufacturing Excellence
- Champion DFM/DFA best practices across the design team.
- Review designs for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and serviceability.
- Lead resolution of complex manufacturing and field issues through robust design changes.
4. Technical Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide technical guidance, design reviews, and mentoring to Mechanical Design Engineers.
- Set and maintain mechanical design standards, templates, and best practices.
- Act as a go-to technical reference for mechanical design within the engineering team.
5. Supplier & Cost Leadership
- Lead engagement with suppliers for custom parts, critical tolerances, and high-risk components.
- Drive cost optimisation through design simplification, standardisation, and value engineering.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities from a technical and quality standpoint.
6. Verification, Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Define and review design verification and validation plans for mechanical systems.
- Lead failure analysis, reliability improvement, and corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on production and field data.
7. Quality, Safety & IMS Compliance
- Ensure mechanical designs comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and relevant safety standards.
- Support audits, technical reviews, and engineering change governance.
- Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and revision control.
Requirements:
- More than 5 years' experience in mechanical design for automation equipment or machinery.
- Proven experience owning complex systems or critical modules end-to-end.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD, tolerancing, and GD&T.
- Strong understanding of precision mechanisms, motion systems, thermal and structural behaviour.
