Unit Description:
The DeGroote’s Student Services team supports all students at the DeGroote School of Business – MBA, BCom, specialized graduate programs and PhD students. As an integrated team, we champion new ideas, collaborate across boundaries, and learn continually to deliver a consistent and inspiring student experience. Our school’s culture is captured by five values: Collaboration, Community, Inclusivity, Innovation & Integrity. As part of Student Services, the Career and Professional Development team delivers innovative excellence in three key areas: Career Development, Strategic Employer Partnerships and Experiential Learning, supporting more than 2300 Commerce and over 500 MBA students each year and up to 100 Master of Finance students. There are team members at both the Burlington and Hamilton locations of the business school. The Manager, Employer Development, works to source and secure co-op, summer and full-time job opportunities for all students within the DeGroote School of Business. He/she also works directly with these students to market them to employers and to provide them with resources to assist them in their co-op, summer and full-time job searches. The incumbent will engage in external relations and act as an ambassador and representative for the DeGroote School of Business. They will work collaboratively with DeGroote and McMaster colleagues to support the strategic priorities and goals of the faculty and university.
Job Summary:
Identifies and initiates new strategic employer relationships in the business community to present a breadth of employment opportunities for business students. Responsible for the research, planning, development, documentation and evaluation of a career centre’s recruitment and employment programs..

Excellent understanding of labour laws and best practices in experiential learning policy and procedures.
Experience in an experiential educational environment (co-operative education preferred), executive recruitment and/or sales experience is an asset.
Extensive knowledge of various corporate/business industry sectors is required - specifically in health care, financial services, professional services, CPGs, and technology.
Excellent written and verbal skills are essential. Proven ability to manage high stress and high-pressure situations with a high degree of maturity and professionalism is critical.
Due to the external profile of this role and the sensitive nature of the work, critical decision-making skills are necessary.
Computer literacy is non-negotiable with particular advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
Previous experience in managing projects, designing and facilitating sales and marketing presentations and coaching/facilitation are all vital to the success of this position.
Extensive travel (may include overnight trips) throughout the year and activities outside of normal business hours are expected (evenings and weekends).
The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s license. Understanding of corporate recruitment and candidate selection/screening strategies. Proven sales skills and must be goal and target driven to meet 100% job secure rate goal.
Additional Information:
As this role will be focused on business development, the incumbent must be able to work and travel within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas on a regular basis.
