Linux Systems Administrator (EDA Environment) - 6 month contract with a view to extend
Location
UK (Remote-first), with infrequent, as-needed access to collocated infrastructure in Maidenhead and London data centres.
Purpose of role
We are seeking a highly capable Linux Systems Administrator whose primary focus is supporting the business’ engineering EDA environment and high-performance compute platform .
The core of this role is the day today operation, stability, and improvement of the EDA software and Linux compute environment used by engineers. You will work across the full EDA stack, encompassing software, licensing, compute, storage, virtualisation (VMware), networking, and supporting HPC components, applying hands on administration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and incremental improvements to keep the platform reliable, performant, and fit for purpose.

Linux Systems & EDA Platform
Operate and maintain Linux systems supporting EDA workloads across the full design life cycle
Performance tuning, capacity planning, and OS life cycle management
Engineering Services & Tooling
Support EDA access, CI, source control, licensing, and workload scheduling (e.g. Jenkins, SVN, SLURM)
Troubleshoot EDA environment and engineer workflow issues
Virtualisation & Infrastructure
Administer VMware vSphere environments and hosted services
Diagnose compute, storage, and platform performance issues
Linux Systems & EDA Platform
Operate and maintain Linux systems supporting EDA workloads across the full design lifecycle
Performance tuning, capacity planning, and OS lifecycle management
Engineering Services & Tooling
Support EDA access, CI, source control, licensing, and workload scheduling (e.g. Jenkins, SVN, SLURM)
Troubleshoot EDA environment and engineer workflow issues
Virtualisation & Infrastructure
Administer VMware vSphere environments and hosted services
Diagnose compute, storage, and platform performance issues
Networking & Data Centres
Troubleshoot networking issues impacting Linux and EDA platforms
Occasional, as needed support of collocated data centre infrastructure
Automation, Storage & Operations
Automate and improve platform reliability using scripting and configuration tools
Support shared storage (e.g. NFS) and perform cross stack troubleshooting
Operate systems in line with security, compliance, and reliability requirements

Linux Systems Administrator with 10 years’ experience

Linux compute estate for EDA workloads
Terminal / RDP servers providing engineer access
CI / automation services (e.g., Jenkins)
Source control services (e.g., SVN)
Shared storage (Qumulo NFS ) for engineering data
Enterprise networking : multi vendor switching, multiVLAN segmentation, and datacentre connectivity
VMware vSphere hypervisor platform hosting multiple EDA related services, including:
EDA licence servers
SLURM controller and supporting services for the compute grid
Windows domain controllers / core AD services
Strong, hands on experience administering Linux systems in production (including performance tuning and life cycle management)
Proven ability to administer, troubleshoot, and improve an engineering compute platform spanning compute, storage, virtualisation, and networking
Proficient with VMware vSphere / ESXi (clusters, templates, data stores, capacity, and performance troubleshooting)
Excellent networking knowledge , including multiVLAN environments, routing/switching fundamentals, firewall concepts, and structured troubleshooting across multi vendor networks
Strong experience with shared storage for Linux estates (NFS) and confidence troubleshooting mount, permission, throughput, and latency issues (Qumulo experience beneficial)
Experience operating engineer facing access services such as terminal/RDP servers
Working knowledge of CI/automation and source control services in an engineering context (e.g., Jenkins, SVN)
Experience with workload scheduling / grid concepts (e.g., SLURM) and supporting services used in compute farms
Comfortable supporting mixed environments including core Windows services where required (e.g., AD / domain controllers)
Strong scripting and automation capability
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex, cross discipline issues
