As the Legal Specialist for the AI Robot Association (AIRoA), you will be responsible for a wide range of legal work that supports both organizational operations and large-scale projects. Your key responsibilities will include drafting and reviewing various agreements with member companies and research institutions, designing contract schemes, conducting legal reviews, developing internal regulations and guidelines, establishing rules for handling intellectual property and data, and providing legal confirmation related to contracts and reporting with public institutions such as NEDO.
In addition, you will play a key role in building corporate governance appropriate for a general incorporated association, including supporting the operation of the Board of Directors and various committees, as well as handling risk management and compliance matters.
【What Makes the “Legal Specialist” Role at AIRoA Unique】
Legal at AIRoA is not just about “checking standardized contracts.” It is a role where you stand on the side of creating the rules for a pioneering initiative: building a robot data ecosystem through the fusion of AI and robotics technologies.
While making large-scale datasets openly available, how do we protect and fairly return the intellectual property and data of companies and research institutions? You will work closely with business teams to address these complex issues at the intersection of law, contracts, and technology.
【The Appeal of Taking On This Challenge at AIRoA, Just as We Are Getting Started】
AIRoA was established in December 2024 and began full-scale operations in FY2025, and is currently in its launch phase. Leading Japanese companies, prominent startups, and research institutions participate as members, joining forces across industry, government, and academia to build a robot data ecosystem.
There is still significant room for improvement in our legal “infrastructure,” including contract templates, data-sharing schemes, membership regulations, and compliance policies. Having the opportunity to design these schemes and build the rules yourself is one of the biggest attractions of serving as a Legal Specialist at AIRoA.
【Other】
While remote work is possible, this role is primarily expected to be office-based.
Most of our engineers and researchers also work on-site, conducting research and development directly in front of the robots.
【About AIRoA】
AIRoA was established in December 2024 with two core objectives: “to revolutionize the technology of robot development through the fusion of robots and AI” and “to promote the use of robots in society.” While AI is rapidly advancing worldwide, the shortage of data in robot development has become a critical issue.
To address this challenge, we are running a national flagship project funded by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), with an investment of over JPY 20 billion.
AIRoA is simultaneously driving multiple initiatives, including the collection and integration of robot operational data, the development of foundation models for robotics, and joint projects with member companies. As these efforts expand, the requirements for contracts with member companies, research institutions, and subcontractors—as well as for handling data and intellectual property, and for governance and compliance—are rapidly increasing.
In anticipation of further project growth and the organization’s move toward more autonomous operation, we have decided to newly hire a Legal Specialist.
After joining AIRoA, you will first gain an understanding of our business structure and stakeholders through day-to-day legal work such as drafting and reviewing various contracts and conducting legal checks.
Building on that foundation, you will also be involved in more upstream scheme design, including developing an approach to data licensing appropriate for a robot data ecosystem, designing intellectual property and data-sharing policies, and establishing internal rules related to privacy and AI governance.

Preferred Qualifications:
We currently operate out of a spacious office and research facility of over 1,000 m² located in the Ryutsu Center area. In this space, our business teams and engineering teams work in close collaboration, advancing both day-to-day operations and R&D with AI robots always close at hand. The facility is frequently visited not only by members of the AI Robot Association, but also by engineers and researchers from partner companies and representatives from member companies. As a result, it serves as a hub where diverse experts at the forefront of AI and robotics gather and interact.
Today, highly skilled engineers and researchers from around the world are part of our organization. Some members have even relocated from overseas to Japan to join our projects on site. We aim to build a globally open R&D organization where diverse talent, regardless of nationality or background, come together, inspire one another, and shape the future.
