Job Description
We are looking for a passionate individual that can work on procuring and preparing biological materials including but not limited to cultured cells, modified DNA molecules, and antibody/DNA conjugates and evaluating and using these for testing biosensing devices. Additionally, this person is expected to support the efficiency, performance, documentation, maintenance, and budget of our projects and to contribute to our ovarall fundraising efforts.
The candidate will be working in a dynamic environment with highly motivated and dedicated research scientists, graduate students, and engineers and will be communicating with the team members on a regular basis.
Required Degree and Experience:
· The candidate should hold a in chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, or a similar area.
· The candidate is preferred to have experience with performing biological assays and bacterial pathogenic or mammalian cell culture testing. Preferably, the candidate should have experience in working in a containment level 2 laboratory.
· Prior lab management, lab administration, and research coordination experience is an asset.
· One-year experience in a wet lab is asset but we encourage new graduates to apply!
· Authorization to work in Canada is a must
Job Responsibilities and Qualifications:
· Responsible for performing bioassays on a regular basis
· Responsible for data analysis, presentation, and reporting of experimental results and findings
· Responsible for carrying out a diverse range of work activities; ensure all duties and responsibilities are handled with accuracy and efficiency, providing quality results
· Responisble for chemical handling, sample preparation, and working with, maintaining and troubleshooting several laboratory equipment.
· Responsible for reagent, chemical and laboratory equipment ordering, restocking, budgeting and documentation
· Responsible for maintaining biosafety certification of the laboratory
· Organize initiatives in a team to ensure a clean, safe and orderly work environment
· Lead and organize lab meetings, safety training sessions and orientations for both one-on-one mentorship and large group meetings
· Handle biohazardous materials, samples and chemicals/reagents in laboratory environment, in compliance with university procedures
· Self-motivated and adaptable to temporary responsibilities outside of initial job description
· Excellent time management skills, with the ability to be highly productive and dedicated in a high paced work environment
· Detail-oriented, with meticulous bench work and wet lab skills
· Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience in scientific publications is an asset.
· Competency in computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
