Beyond Blood Diagnostics is a fast growing award winning deep-tech start-up focused on leveraging microfluidic technology in combination with semiconductors to monitor vital blood biomarkers critical for cancer patients. Today cancer patients have no visibility on the effectiveness of chemotherapy and with our device they can monitor at home as often as they like the effectiveness of chemotherapy. This position will play a crucial role in bringing our device into patient’s homes and eliminating completely 2 million cancellations every year for the NHS. The company has already secured over £5m in funding over the last 2 years and is committed to developing products that are both safe and effective while navigating complex regulatory environments.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a meticulous and hands-on Junior Engineer or Technician to become the backbone of our technical operations. While our senior team focuses on design architecture, your role will focus on the physical realisation of those designs. You will be responsible for the precision assembly of our pilot microfluidic cartridges, ensuring that every unit used for testing meets rigorous quality standards.
This is not a theoretical design role; it is an execution role. It offers a unique opportunity to master advanced micro-manufacturing techniques, manage a high-tech laboratory environment, and play a critical part in our verification process. You will be the "safe pair of hands" that ensures our R&D team has reliable, consistent hardware to test.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Skills & Experience:
Desirable Skills:
High Manual Dexterity:
Exceptional hand-eye coordination and the ability to handle fragile, microscopic components with precision (e.g., using tweezers under a microscope).
Process Discipline:
A proven ability to follow detailed written instructions and technical drawings without deviation.
Lab/Manufacturing Experience:
Previous experience working in a wet lab, cleanroom, or precision assembly environment.
Technical Literacy:
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (CAD) and technical diagrams.
Attention to Detail:
A "zero-defect" mentality; you spot errors that others miss.
Educational Background:
HNC/HND in Engineering/Science, or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with strong practical application.
Microfluidics/Bio-knowledge:
Experience with pipetting, fluid handling, or micro-channels.
Workshop Skills:
Basic familiarity with soldering, 3D printing, or hand tools.
Data Savvy:
Comfortable using Excel/Google Sheets for recording data and generating basic charts.
Document Control:
Familiarity with operating within ISO13485 protocols (or similar standards).
