About the Department
The FUSE Office at McMaster University supports the delivery and continuous improvement of the Faculty of Engineering’s integrated, project-based undergraduate curriculum, with a focus on the first-year experience and its upper-year continuations. Serving over 1,000 students annually, FUSE coordinates large, multi-course programs and works closely with faculty, instructional staff, and administrative units to deliver high-quality experiential learning.
The office oversees course coordination, instructional support, staffing and training of instructional assistants, and the operation of design studios and laboratories. It also supports accreditation and assessment processes (e.g., CEAB and Graduate Attributes), integrates teaching tools and platforms, and contributes to curriculum development and faculty-wide initiatives. Operating in a dynamic, collaborative environment, FUSE is committed to continuous improvement and enhancing the student learning experience through innovative, team-based education.
About the Position
The Instructional Assistant (II) will organize, and coordinate activities related to undergraduate design projects and laboratories within the FUSE Office within Engineering.
This position will be responsible for ensuring that safety procedures are considered and implemented into all the teaching activities in the labs; providing a safe working environment for students and staff; training of Teaching Assistants and IAI's (co-op students) to use all equipment safely; testing of existing labs and design activities to ensure they are optimized prior to undergrad students' arrival; designing and preparing experiential learning activities; supporting undergraduate labs and design projects throughout the academic term including through the delivery of the content needed; maintaining online learning environments and databases.
As needed this position will also be responsible for some administrative functions relating to courses such as SAS accommodations, MSAF processing and exam student reviews. The successful candidate will acquire and maintain expertise in all new software or hardware used (including performing maintenance and/or repairs as needed). The successful incumbent will provide direction and support to TAs (and IAI's) assigned to the lab, tutorial (design studio) and lectures and must ensure that safety and operating protocols are always adhered to at all times.

Provides pedagogical and technical support to instructors, teaching assistants and students. Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of curriculum, assessment and instructional activities within an academic unit, department, or faculty.
