Instagram Reels Editor
Internship/Entry Level
You're not a video editor. You're an Instagram editor. There's a difference and you already know what it is.
Most video editors think in timelines. They worry about colour grading, export settings, and resolution. That's not this role. This role is for someone who thinks in retention curves, watch throughs, and "will they screenshot this font?" You edit with the algorithm in your head because you understand how
Instagram actually distributes Reels, what holds attention in the first two seconds, and what makes someone rewatch. If you've ever looked at a Reel and immediately diagnosed what was wrong with the edit, we want to meet you.
What this role is really about
Retention Engineering. Every cut, zoom, text timing, and sound effect is a calculated decision. You edit to keep people watching. You know what a pattern interrupt is, and you use it deliberately.
We need to talk to you if
You've looked at a Reel and thought the font ruined it and you were right
You know what makes the first 2 seconds of a Reel the most important 2 seconds
You have a strong opinion on which transitions are still working in 2025 and which ones are cooked
You know the difference between editing for TikTok and editing for Instagram (they are NOT the same)
You've built a small edit portfolio even if it's on your own account, a friend's, or just for fun
Tools (what you probably already use)
CapCut, Instagram's native editor, or Premiere, we care about the output, not the tool
You know how to source and sync trending audio natively within Instagram
Bonus: you have a sense of motion design or can use simple animation overlays
Aesthetic Precision. You have strong opinions about fonts. You know when to use bold white Montserrat, when to use a minimal lowercase sans, and when to go for a handwritten feel. You know which fonts scream amateur and you'd never use them. Typography on Instagram is a whole language, you're fluent.
Format Fluency. You know what's working right now, which transitions are alive, which are dead, which formats are outperforming. And critically: you can execute them fast and make them feel original, not copy paste.
Sound & Sync. You know the difference between a trending audio and an overplayed one. You know how to cut to beats and when to break the rhythm for impact. Music isn't background, it's structure.
Instagram Features, All of Them. Text stickers, polls, collabs, remixes, audio attribution, you treat every native Instagram feature as a reach opportunity. You don't ignore the platform. You use it.
Speed Without Sacrificing Quality. You can turn a raw clip into a tight 30 second Reel in under two hours. Ideally under one. Because content moves fast and we move faster.
You follow creators not just to watch but to reverse engineer how they edited
