About NewVue.ai
NewVue.ai is a rapidly growing healthcare technology company focused on modernizing radiology workflow. Our platform helps imaging groups and hospitals streamline their operations by connecting disparate systems, like PACS, dictation tools, and EHRs, into a unified, efficient radiologist cockpit. We work closely with radiologists, IT teams, and clinical leaders to improve turnaround times, reduce errors, and deliver better patient outcomes. We’re a growing, nimble team that values autonomy, flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative spirit.
Job Overview
The Head of Engineering owns delivery, people, and quality across product and platform engineering at NewVue. You will lead mixed in-house and outsourced teams to ship reliably on a bi‑weekly release train, standardize CI/CD and testing, and partner with the CTO (architecture, platform strategy, security/compliance) and VP Product (outcomes and roadmap). Your mandate is predictable delivery, high availability, and a great developer experience so our products can be delivered quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Org Design
- Build, lead, and mentor product engineering pods and a platform engineering pod; set goals and career paths.
- Establish operating cadence (bi‑weekly release train, quarterly planning) with clear capacity and commitments.
- Recruit and develop technical leaders; raise the bar on code quality, reliability and ownership.
Delivery & Quality
- Own delivery predictability and product quality for our products.
- Institutionalize CI/CD with progressive delivery (blue‑green/canary), automated rollbacks, and environment promotion.
- Shift‑left testing: unit, API/contract, integration, performance, and security checks as pipeline gates.
Platform, Reliability & Developer Experience
- Partner with the Platform/SRE Lead to evolve paved paths: service templates, adapter scaffolds, and golden pipelines.
- Own on‑call rotations, incident response, postmortems, and SLO/SLI adoption to reduce MTTR and change‑fail rate.
- Drive observability (logs/metrics/traces) and cost stewardship (FinOps) across services.
Security & Compliance Partnership
- Execute security and compliance guardrails set by the CTO within CI/CD and runtime (HIPAA/SOC 2/HITRUST).
- Enforce least privilege, secrets management, dependency/container/IaC scanning, and SBOM practices.
Vendor/Outsourced Team Management
- Own the relationship and SLAs with the outsourced engineering partner; ensure velocity and quality.
- Integrate vendor squads into our pipelines, coding standards, reviews, and on‑call expectations.
Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Co‑own release planning and commitments with VP Product; align capacity to outcomes and deadlines.
- Partner with CTO and Lead Architect on architecture reviews and reusable platform patterns (no side channels).
- Support COO, TPM, and Implementation with reusable adapters and onboarding tiers for predictable go‑lives.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in software engineering with 4+ years leading multi‑team engineering organizations in SaaS.
- Proven track record delivering on a regular cadence with strong CI/CD, testing automation, and reliability practices.
- Experience running mixed in‑house/outsourced engineering teams; clear vendor management and SLAs.
- Hands‑on familiarity with AWS‑backed architectures (containers/orchestration, RDS/Aurora, eventing) and Infrastructure as Code.
- Demonstrated leadership in incident management, SLO/SLI adoption, and data‑informed improvement (lead time, MTTR, change‑fail).
- Strong collaboration with Product and Architecture; excellent communication and stakeholder management.
- Ability to hire, coach, and retain senior engineers and managers.
Nice to Have
- Healthcare or radiology domain exposure (HL7/FHIR, PHI handling, regulated environments).
- Experience with contract testing, schema registries, event‑driven systems, and multi‑tenant controls.
- Familiarity with Datadog or Dynatrace and FinOps practices.
What Success Looks Like (90 Days)
- Bi‑weekly release train running with clear commitments and at least two on‑time releases.
- Unified CI/CD patterns in use; progressive delivery and automated rollback for key services.
- On‑call program with runbooks and postmortems in place; initial SLOs/SLIs defined and tracked.
- Outsourced team integrated with standards, code review, and pipeline gates; measurable velocity/quality gains.
Growth Path
- Scale product and platform pods, adding engineering managers and tech leads as needed.
- Mature developer experience, reliability, and cost controls as customer volume grows.
- Partner in senior hiring (Platform/SRE Lead, Engineering Managers) and succession planning.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
- Unlimited PTO – with the expectation of responsible use and alignment with team needs
- Fully remote work environment. Work from anywhere in the U.S.
