Job Description
The Faculty of Social Sciences consists of 13 academic Departments/Schools/Programs, specialized research units and three support units and employs about 130 faculty, more than 60 staffand over 220 full-time equivalent graduate teaching assistants, as well as both research and teaching postdoctoral fellows and sessional lecturers.
The Faculty HR Coordinator will support the Faculty of Social Sciences and will provide centralized support in the administration of the faculty’s human resources and hiring/onboarding functions, working within a collaborative environment to ensure an inclusive, positive, and productive workplace and optimal alignment of staff resources to advance key priorities and needs.
Job Summary:
The Faculty HR Coordinator provides a full range of HR support to staff, faculty, and managers within the faculty. Together with the Faculty’s HR Manager, the Faculty HR Coordinator is responsible for the effective service delivery, acting as a trusted advisor to leaders on HR issues and initiatives, supporting the execution of the departments research, service, and educational mission, while aligning with the priorities of the Faculty and the University.
The Faculty HR Coordinator provides consultative support to leaders, with a focus on EDI, while ensuring alignment with Faculty and University policies and procedures, legislation, collective agreements and the Mission, Vision and Values of McMaster University, and while minimizing risk and financial liability to the department. They are responsible, with oversight from the HR Manager, for compliance, equitable practices, and continuous process improvements. It is critical this position is familiar with university policies, collective agreements as well as external legislation such as the Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Code.
The Faculty HR Coordinator will provide HR support and guidance, with oversight from the HR Manager to managers and faculty PIs in the areas of recruitment & selection, orientation & onboarding, payroll administration, employee relations, equitable compensation, health and safety, termination/layoff/retirement, absence management, return to work/accommodations, and performance management.
