Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and creative Design Engineer to develop detailed 3D models and technical drawings from concepts, focusing on precision, functionality, and manufacturability. This role involves utilising CAD software (such as SolidWorks), collaborating with teams, ensuring compliance with standards, and iterating designs through prototyping and testing. This role requires a deep understanding of materials, tolerances, and manufacturing techniques, particularly for use in marine and rugged environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks with a focus on precision and functionality.
• Collaborate with the production, electronics, and service teams to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and service-friendly.
• Conduct design validation, stress analysis, and DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly) checks.
• Participate in prototype development, testing, and iteration cycles.
• Maintain BOMs (Bills of Materials) and design documentation in accordance with internal standards.
• Interface with suppliers and vendors for material selection, fabrication feasibility, and cost optimisation.
• Support R&D initiatives by translating concepts into working, testable prototypes.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education : Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Product Design, or related engineering field.
• Software : Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks - including modelling, assembly, simulation, and technical drawings and PDM systems.
• Technical Skills :

o   Strong understanding of geometry, drafting principles, and manufacturing processes.

o   Strong understanding of material properties, fasteners, sealing, corrosion resistance, and tolerance stack-up.

o   Experience with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, 3D printing, injection moulding, or waterjet/laser cutting.

• Soft Skills : Excellent communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Standards : Knowledge of GD&T (Geometry Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
