【What Makes the “Governance Manager” Role at AIRoA Unique】
This role is positioned as the “owner of judgment and deal closure,” responsible for determining how to reach agreement based on legal opinions from external counsel. Rather than simply pointing out risks and stopping there, you will be expected to act as a true “deal-maker” — designing alternative terms and negotiation strategies, aligning stakeholders, and driving the process through to final agreement.
As a Governance Manager at AIRoA, you will help bring cutting-edge AI × robotics business and research domains—where precedents are still limited—into practical reality by leveraging your expertise in contract and legal matters, as well as your experience coordinating among numerous stakeholders.

AIRoA is a general incorporated association established in December 2024 with the mission of bringing AI × robotics foundation models and a robot data ecosystem to the world, and it began full-scale operations in FY2025. It is a rare type of organization that combines participation from some of Japan’s leading large enterprises and AI startups with the public character of a “neutral platform.”
In this launch phase, you will have the opportunity to design the very “templates” and frameworks for governance and contract operations yourself, and to take on the challenge of influencing rule-making both in Japan and internationally.
【About AIRoA】
AIRoA was established in December 2024 with two core objectives: “to revolutionize the technology of robot development through the fusion of robots and AI” and “to promote the use of robots in society.” While AI is rapidly advancing worldwide, the shortage of data in robot development has become a critical issue.
To address this challenge, we are running a national flagship project funded by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), with an investment of over JPY 20 billion.
AIRoA aims to drive innovation in robotics development by integrating robots and AI, and to advance the entire industry by openly releasing robot data and foundation models in Japan and globally. In the process, the number of large-scale contracts—such as joint research agreements, data provision, and outsourcing/procurement arrangements involving many stakeholders—is rapidly increasing.
Looking ahead to further business expansion and international collaboration, we need new talent who can lead robust yet forward-looking governance. At AIRoA, we are seeking someone with deep expertise and hands-on experience in using contracts to move business and research initiatives forward.
You will take the lead in identifying and organizing key risks for each major contract type, developing standard documentation (templates and guidelines), and designing the end-to-end process from review through to execution. Over the medium to long term, your mission will be to build a governance framework linked to board and committee operations, establish lifecycle management covering contracts, purchase orders, acceptance/inspection, and change management, and put in place operational rules robust enough to withstand audits and external accountability.
As AIRoA’s overall governance lead, we expect you to oversee large-scale domestic and international deals as well as the organization’s broader risk management framework.
5+ years of experience reviewing and making decisions on contracts such as outsourcing, service, consulting, and subcontracting agreements
Ability to understand clauses on scope of work, fees, intellectual property, confidential information, and conflicts of interest, and to draft revision language at the clause level
＜Governance / Internal Control Experience＞
Practical experience as a business-side owner in building internal controls and governance frameworks, and responding to audits
Experience interpreting and tailoring output from external consultants for in-house use and driving it through to actual implementation
＜Basic Understanding of IT / IP＞
Understanding of fundamental concepts in software, AI, and data development contracts
Knowledge of copyrights, patents, know-how, etc., sufficient to hold discussions with legal and other experts
＜Organizational Fit & Tool Usage＞
Experience managing or working closely with teams mainly composed of members in their 30s
Comfortable using SaaS tools on a daily basis and driving alignment and documentation via chat-based communication (e.g., Slack, Google Drive, Notion)
Practical experience in contract management and governance at an IT company or R&D-driven organization
Experience in AI, data, cloud, or SaaS-related business, or in collaborating with IP / legal departments
Experience developing internal policies, contract templates, and guidelines, as well as handling internal controls, audits, and J-SOX compliance
Experience coordinating complex contract deals involving many stakeholders in environments such as trading companies, system integrators (SIers), or PMO roles

●Our Office
We currently operate out of a spacious office and research facility of over 1,000 m² located in the Ryutsu Center area. In this space, our business teams and engineering teams work in close collaboration, advancing both day-to-day operations and R&D with AI robots always close at hand. The facility is frequently visited not only by members of the AI Robot Association, but also by engineers and researchers from partner companies and representatives from member companies. As a result, it serves as a hub where diverse experts at the forefront of AI and robotics gather and interact.
Today, highly skilled engineers and researchers from around the world are part of our organization. Some members have even relocated from overseas to Japan to join our projects on site. We aim to build a globally open R&D organization where diverse talent, regardless of nationality or background, come together, inspire one another, and shape the future.
