Role Summay
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and troubleshooting control systems for industrial automation and smart manufacturing environments. Based in Mexico and working in a hybrid model, this role supports both remote engineering work and periodic site visits to customer facilities. You will work cross-functionally with Deployment, Product, and Field Ops teams to ensure robust and scalable system integrations aligned with Fireball’s industrial technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
• Control System Design: Develop and configure PLC, HMI, Robots and SCADA systems for factory automation, material handling, and sensor integration.
• Field Deployment Support: Assist with equipment commissioning, system bring-up, and remote diagnostics during installations and retrofits.
• Integration & Connectivity: Design and implement data pipelines between edge hardware, PLCs, sensors, and Fireball’s cloud platform using protocols like Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, and Ethernet/IP.
• Troubleshooting: Perform system-level debugging, identify root causes of automation failures, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaboration: Work with software and deployment teams to support remote configuration, device monitoring, and edge-device logic tuning.
Requirements
• 3–7 years of experience in controls engineering, industrial automation, or electrical systems integration.
• At least 3 years of experience in robotic systems.
• Proficiency with at least one major PLC platform (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, Beckhoff).
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, CAN, etc.).
• Experience reading and creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Willingness to travel regionally across Mexico (~10–25%) for site visits and commissioning.
• Fluent in Spanish and working proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with IoT platforms, edge computing, or cloud-integrated automation.
• Knowledge of electrical standards (e.g., IEC, NFPA, NOM), safety relays, and VFDs.
• Familiarity with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, Node-RED, TwinCAT).
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Experience supporting brownfield (retrofit) environments in manufacturing or logistics.
Key Traits
• Detail-oriented and hands-on problem solver.
• Comfortable working in hybrid environments (field + remote).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between technical and operational teams.
• Adaptable to fast-paced project cycles with cross-functional collaboration.
