Company Description
Applix provides the industry’s only Manufacturing Operating System designed for automation, control, scalability, and tailored solutions to meet diverse manufacturing needs. We specialize in building smarter factories and helping manufacturers optimize engineering, production, and operational workflows. Our technology and engineering teams support large OEMs and Tier-1 manufacturers across heavy equipment, industrial products, transportation, and discrete manufacturing.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Casting Design Engineer (Creo / Structural Validation) located in Tucson, AZ. The responsibilities include designing and developing cast mechanical components, preparing 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using Creo Parametric, and performing structural validation using Pro/Mechanica, Creo Simulate, FEA tools, hand calculations, and engineering judgment. You will collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, quality, purchasing, and cross-functional engineering teams to support design release, manufacturability, supplier feedback, engineering documentation, and issue resolution. This role requires someone who understands casting design, load paths, GD&T, machining allowances, material behavior, failure modes, and design verification.
Qualifications
Expertise in Design Engineering, Product Design, and Mechanical Engineering
Strong proficiency with Computer-Aided Design software, especially Creo Parametric / Pro-E
Experience designing cast mechanical components for heavy equipment, drivetrain, structures, engines, transmission, axle, hydraulic, or related mechanical systems
Ability to validate designs using Pro/Mechanica, Creo Simulate, ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, or similar tools
Ability to perform hand calculations for stress, bending, shear, bolted joints, bearing loads, fatigue assumptions, section properties, and basic structural checks
Good understanding of casting, machining, heat treatment, inspection, and manufacturing processes
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, engineering drawings, and design standards
Experience with DFMEA, DFM, DFMA, APQP, PPAP, NPI, CPI, supplier localization, or engineering release processes is preferred
Experience with Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar PLM/PDM systems is preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for structural validation and design issue resolution
Attention to detail and ability to meet project deadlines
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
Experience with Caterpillar, heavy equipment, off-highway, mining, construction, agriculture, rail, drivetrain, or industrial machinery programs is a plus
