The
BiomedicalEquipmentTechnician
has expertise in medical device information systems and cybersecurity to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Program Office. This role will focus on
networked medical equipment maintenance, cybersecurity, system troubleshooting, and information system integration
to ensure medical devices are secure, functional, and compliant with regulatory standards. The position requires collaboration with clinical, technical, and administrative staff and active engagement in maintaining VHA biomedical systems.

Two-year associate degree in applied science, information security, biomedical technology, or equivalent military training.
Minimum of 3 years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance, including at least 1 year of specialized experience in medical information systems and networking.
Proficiency in computer virus protection software, software patching, information security tools, and medical device electronics.
Experience maintaining, interfacing, and troubleshooting networked medical equipment, including TCP/IP, HL7, DICOM, VLANs, IP addressing, and subnetting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in biomedical and/or healthcare cybersecurity programs or medical device vulnerability management.
Prior experience supporting VA or federal healthcare environments.
Knowledge of networked telehealth or critical care medical devices.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
VA facilities, Phronetik facilities, with optional remote work; travel to VA sites may be required.
Must comply with federal regulations and VA policies.

Phronetik, as a small business government contractor, is unable to finalize employment until the contract is officially awarded. This ensures that all hiring aligns with federal requirements and contract needs.
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of networked medical devices and clinical equipment, ensuring operational readiness and patient safety.
Provide specialized support for medical information systems, including server-based equipment, medical record databases, and proprietary or generic software applications.
Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures for medical devices, including virus protection, software patches, updates, and network security monitoring.
Configure and maintain networked medical equipment, including VLAN configuration, IP addressing, subnetting, and interfacing with hospital networks.
Apply knowledge of TCP/IP, HL7, DICOM, and networking standards to identify, diagnose, and resolve equipment connectivity and communication issues.
Utilize network test equipment and tools to assess system integrity, identify vulnerabilities, and support preventive maintenance.
Interpret, analyze, and apply technical literature, schematics, and drawings to guide equipment installation, repair, and optimization.
Collaborate effectively with clinical and technical staff, including engineers, IT teams, and management, to ensure seamless operation and compliance with healthcare standards.
Maintain documentation of maintenance activities, system configurations, and incident reports for regulatory and compliance purposes.
Ensure all work aligns with regulatory agencies’ requirements, ISO standards, and VHA policies.
Ability to analyze and resolve networking vs. non-networking issues and apply network engineering principles in a healthcare environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical, clinical, and administrative staff.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical schematics, drawings, and literature.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements (FDA, TJC, VA policies) and ISO standards.
