Blum Biologicals is building a next-generation biological discovery and development platform focused on novel biological crop protection solutions. We are looking for a  Biologist / Plant Pathologist Team Lead  to play a key leadership role in our discovery engine.

This is a senior, hands-on scientific role working at the intersection of  biology, microbiology, fermentation, bioassays, analytical chemistry, and AI , with direct input into discovery, development, and scale-up.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree (MSc)  in Biology, Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline
• PhD advantageous but not essential

Required Experience

• Microbiology and/or plant pathology (fungal and/or bacterial systems)
• Genomics, molecular biology, or related biological techniques
• Experimental design and biological data interpretation
• Liquid-state bioreactors  (microbial cultivation and optimisation)
• Solid-state fermentation  systems
• Working with microorganisms and biological processes

Highly Desirable

• Experience in  biological pesticides / biocontrol products
• Exposure to metabolite discovery or secondary metabolites
• Experience working at the R&D → scale-up interface
• Collaboration with analytical chemistry and bioassay teams

Key Responsibilities

• Lead biological discovery programmes and mentor junior staff
• Design and interpret biological experiments linked to real-world application
• Develop and optimise liquid and solid-state fermentation processes
• Work closely with bioassay, analytical chemistry, AI, and pilot plant teams
• Generate high-quality data suitable for IP protection and product development
