Job Summary A highly motivated Business Intelligence Analyst (Senior with underfill) to join the Department of Emergency Medicine at Michigan Medicine. This position will focus on designing and maintaining technical data solutions to support Emergency Medicine research, using advanced tools for data mining, statistical analysis, visualization, and interpretation to advance human subjects research within Emergency Medicine. The role emphasizes data development and integration across multiple systems and technologies, with occasional dashboard development as needed. The analyst must also communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clinically educated but non-technical personnel, translating complex data concepts into clear, actionable insights.
Responsibilities include data extraction, organization, and staging for multiple sites and stakeholders; database design and optimization for research workflows; managing data within the EDRESEARCH schema in Clarity and HSDW?including backups, indexing, performance tuning, and security configuration for assigned datasets; application development; and clear communication of data insights. The analyst will also write advanced code for dataset preparation and data mart enhancements and ensure data delivery meets project specifications and quality standards.
The analyst will map, collect, and analyze clinical information from electronic medical records and UMHS data warehouses, and work with external data sources as needed, leveraging departmental resources such as the ED Data Mart to support research initiatives. The role includes managing databases, dashboards and ensuring data quality and security.
The analyst will produce reports for review and evaluation and collaborate closely with the departmental statistician and the Emergency Department Business Intelligence team to share code and leverage existing resources. This collaboration ensures consistency in data governance and development for datasets that support research and, where applicable, quality of care. The successful candidate is expected to be a proactive problem solver who is willing to learn new languages and tools to move projects forward.

Working knowledge of UMHS clinical programs, EPIC MiChart. Cogito Certification. EPIC certification as an informatics programmer. Familiarity with healthcare data models used in research (ohohsdi/omop, pcornet and others), healthcare terminology (ICD, CPT, SNOMED, LOINC) and terminology services (UMLS), clinical text processing, healthcare APIs (i.e. FHIR), application programming in EPIC. Report development experience. Knowledge of Hospital or clinical department policies and procedures, including working with clinical computer supported data systems. Working knowledge of statistics and statistical programs is desired. Working knowledge of medical terminology strongly suggested. Professional communication experience. Comfort with medical environments is desirable, as well as experience with confidential and sensitive information.
