Tremau is a Trust & Safety solutions provider based in Paris, whose mission it is to make the digital world safe & beneficial for all. We do so by enabling online services to better protect their users while staying compliant with rapidly evolving regulations worldwide through a mix of tailored moderation products (Nima) and services. Most of our clients are global online platforms and service providers. We provide an intelligent SaaS product that leverages AI to help platforms manage and govern user-generated content in compliance with digital regulations and we deliver advisory services to help platforms in their Trust & Safety operations.
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to maintain and evolve a high-performance backend system that powers real-time decisioning and data processing workflows. The role focuses on core backend services, system integrations, and performance-critical components, with an emphasis on Python and Rust. You will work on backend infrastructure that supports low-latency, event-driven use cases, while collaborating closely with product and platform teams to deliver reliable and scalable systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and extend core backend services written primarily in Python, with performance-critical components in Rust.
Design and evolve backend APIs and service interfaces.
Work on real-time or event-driven data processing workflows.
Integrate backend systems with external services and internal platforms.
Improve system performance, reliability, and observability.
Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code.
Participate in system design, architecture reviews, and technical decision-making.
Review code, debug complex issues, and improve existing implementations.
Support containerized development and deployment workflows.
Required Skills and Experience:
3+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
Strong proficiency in Python for backend development (including async programming and testing).
Professional experience with Rust, or strong ability to read, debug, and contribute to Rust codebases.
Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.
Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Familiarity with Docker and containerized development environments.
Strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred / Nice to Have:
Experience with high-performance or low-latency systems.
Familiarity with event-driven or streaming architectures.
Experience working in polyglot backend environments.
Exposure to Kubernetes or other orchestration tools.
Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability tooling.
