About the Role

Job Title: Associate Backend Engineer
Location: Remote within the UK
Department: Engineering
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

• Develop new API capabilities to enhance features for Chip's customers.
• Work on the development of new microservices deployed across our AWS estate.
• Participate in show & tell sessions to help the company understand engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in PHP with a willingness to learn GO.
• Familiarity with PHP frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony.
• Knowledge of design patterns (e.g., bus, repository, decorator).
• Understanding of mutable vs immutable databases.
• Experience with data structures and performance audits of codebases and databases.
• Proficiency in local development with Docker and production deployment.
• Strong understanding of branching strategies and microservice architecture.

Working Hours

• Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Benefits

• Salary: £41,000 - £45,000 per annum.
• Discretionary performance-related bi-annual bonus of up to 10% (cash) and 5% (shares).
• Workplace pension scheme with a 5% contribution on earnings up to £50,000.
