This organization is seeking a Principal Search Engineer to drive the future of its search platform. What You’ll Do:

• Lead Search Innovation: Design and implement ranking and re-ranking algorithms for hybrid retrieval systems (BM25 + vector/KNN) and explore ML-powered approaches to improve search relevance.
• Optimize for Scale & Performance: Reduce query latency, optimize OpenSearch schemas, and ensure our search infrastructure scales efficiently.
• Build Robust ML Pipelines: Enhance embedding generation, retrieval pipelines, and automated workflows for re-indexing and validation.
• Drive Quality & Reliability: Integrate performance, regression, and load testing into CI/CD pipelines, and maintain high standards for observability and reliability.
• Collaborate & Share Knowledge: Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to release impactful improvements and document best practices for ongoing search optimization.

What We’re Looking For:

• 6+ years in search engineering, applied ML, or large-scale information retrieval.
• Strong programming skills (Python, Node.js, or similar) and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Expertise in OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, vector-based retrieval, and hybrid ranking models.
• Experience with semantic search, embeddings, or LLM-based ranking.
• Proven track record of building high-performance, scalable systems.
• Familiarity with enterprise data security and compliance standards (GDPR, SOC2) is a plus.
