Application Engineer

Scalables is building a new category of lab automation: modular, plug-and-play Daisy instruments that researchers can combine and reconfigure in minutes to automate real workflows without the cost and rigidity of traditional systems. Our platform brings together hardware, software, and AI to help labs move faster—from idea to setup to execution.

We are looking for an Application Engineer to help turn Daisy’s capabilities into compelling real-world applications. This is a highly dynamic, customer-facing role at the intersection of life science workflows, product development, and technical storytelling. You will help create demonstrations, application content, and example workflows for the Daisy platform, while also contributing directly to product design feedback, functionality testing, and continuous improvement.

What you’ll do

Develop application demos and example workflows for Daisy across different use cases in life sciences and lab automation
Build and test instrument setups using Daisy modules such as pumps, valves, sensors, and motion tools
Create customer-facing technical content including application notes, demo scripts, webinar material, training content, short videos, and online posts
Support customer demos, webinars, trade shows, and other public-facing events

What we’re looking for

BS or MS in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related field
Ideally 2–4 years of hands-on lab experience after graduation, though strong early-career candidates will also be considered
Comfortable working in a wet-lab or lab automation environment
Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for explaining technical ideas clearly to different audiences
Interest in customer interaction, live demos, education, and technical content creation
Detail-oriented, hands-on, and energized by fast-moving startup work
Able to move fluidly between bench work, engineering problem-solving, and outward-facing communication

Especially valuable experience

Experience with fluidics, pumps, valves, dispensing, sample prep, microfluidics, bioprocessing, or related lab workflows
Familiarity with instrumentation testing, troubleshooting, or validation
Experience presenting technical material in demos, webinars, workshops, or online media
Exposure to Python, scripting, automation tools, or lab software
Experience working with customers, scientists, or cross-functional product teams

Why this role is exciting

This is not a narrow support role. You will help define how customers experience Daisy in the real world. One day you may be building a new microfluidics demo, the next day running a webinar, testing a new product feature, or helping shape how a workflow should be packaged and explained to the market. The role is broad because the opportunity is broad: Scalables is building modular automation for a wide range of labs and applications, and this position sits close to both the product and the customer.
