AI Specialist – Clinical NLP at Savana
We are seeking an experienced AI Specialist focused on building language-based AI systems for clinical and multilingual use cases. The role involves applying machine learning models and other AI techniques as the primary approach to NLP, complemented by a solid foundation in Large Language Models to deliver reliable, explainable, and production-ready solutions in regulated environments.
The ideal candidate has excellent understanding of supervised and unsupervised AI techniques, hands-on experience across the full AI lifecycle, self-learning skills, and a pragmatic mindset for selecting and combining techniques that best solve problems in clinical NLP.
Major Accountabilities where this role is involved:
Information Security Management System Responsibilities
Ensure familiarity with and adherence to the organization's information security policies and procedures.
Participate in regular information security training sessions to stay updated on potential threats and necessary security measures.
Promptly report any security incidents or vulnerabilities to the designated function within the organization.
Maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information by following best practices for data handling and protection; including using strong passwords, encrypting sensitive data, regularly updating software, and promptly reporting any security incidents.
Quality Management System Responsibilities:
Adhere to Savana’s Quality Management System (QMS) policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
Participate in and complete assigned training activities.
Identify and report any deviations from controlled processes or regulations.
Work closely with the Quality Team to resolve Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), deviations, and audit findings as deemed applicable.
Contribute to the maintenance and review of Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) and Application Manuals (AMs) related to team activities as applicable.

Design, develop, fine-tune, and deploy clinical NLP solutions in multilingual biomedical settings, including information extraction, classification, semantic search, and linking to standard terminologies.

Support projects within the team’s core scope, including model development and validation for real-world evidence and clinical analytics.
Stay current with advances in language modeling, NLP, and applied machine learning, assessing when new methods are appropriate for production use.
Work effectively in a multicultural, multilingual environment, delivering results under tight timelines.
Ensure adherence to security, privacy, and governance requirements, and report risks or improvement opportunities.
≥3 years of previous experience in a similar role.
Advanced degree (Master or PhD) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computational Linguistics, or related technical field.
Proven experience delivering production-grade language AI systems, combining LLM-based approaches with traditional NLP and machine learning techniques.
Strong foundation in applying machine learning for NLP, including classical algorithms, neural network models (e.g. Transformers), evaluation methods, explainability, and systematic error analysis.
Practical experience with LLMs, including fine-tuning or adaptation, prompt design, evaluation, integration into larger systems, and orchestration using AI agents.
Experience with Agentic AI for process orchestration and efficiency, integrating different AI models and frameworks.
Advanced proficiency in Python.
Experience with additional programming languages (e.g., R, Java, Scala) is a plus.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP for model training, deployment, data pipelines, or monitoring is beneficial.
Experience working with clinical, regulated, or sensitive data and/or multilingual text corpora is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach to model selection and system design.
Clear communication and effective collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality, validation, and responsible AI use.
Fluent Spanish is mandatory. Knowledge of additional European languages (English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian) is an advantage.
